Last week, I had the privilege of attending the Fall 2024 Clinic of Clinics, an incredible event bringing together cybersecurity clinic members from universities across the world, including UC Berkeley, UT Austin, Tufts, and more. Hosted by The Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics, the event featured Jeff Tully, MD, from UC San Diego, who shared invaluable insights into the intersection of cybersecurity and healthcare, particularly the impact of ransomware on health outcomes. It was a fantastic opportunity to interact with peers from other clinics, exchange ideas, and gain fresh perspectives on tackling cyber threats. The cherry on top? I earned a limited-edition Consortium Challenge Coin!?? One of the first of its kind in the country, the Catalyst Cyber Clinic provides free cybersecurity services to charities, non-profits, and social impact organizations while equipping Catalyst cyber program learners and graduates with vital hands-on experience. Led by Catalyst Clinic Director Katie Gibson and Catalyst Academic Director?Marcus Santos, this innovative clinic empowers our learners to tackle real cyber challenges and make a meaningful impact for vulnerable organizations in Canada. We're grateful to Okta, who are powering this vital initiative through a major donation from its philanthropic arm, Okta for Good. Okta for Good's significant contribution will support the launch of the clinic and its initial program deliveries. The Catalyst Cyber Clinic is also proud to be the first Canadian member of the The Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics, a network of leading cyber clinics in the United States and internationally. Headquartered at the University of California Berkeley's Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity, the Consortium includes clinics at over 30 public and private universities and colleges across the United States and beyond. Today the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst, Toronto Metropolitan University announced the launch of the Catalyst Cyber Clinic — the first clinic of its kind in Canada! ????Read the official press release: https://lnkd.in/gxNeeShC The Cyber Clinic will offer free cybersecurity services to under-resourced not-for-profit organizations in Canada, and will be staffed by cybersecurity learners and graduates who, by working at the Cyber Clinic, will gain the hands-on cybersecurity experience they need to find employment in cybersecurity. “The clinic reflects our commitment to building a more resilient and secure digital ecosystem for everyone,“ said Charles Finlay, Founding Executive Director of Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst. “By empowering future cyber professionals with practical experience and supporting vulnerable organizations, we are fostering resilience where it matters most — within the communities that power Canada’s civil society." The Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics mourns the profound loss on October 5 of Dr. Kevin Harris, a dedicated leader and advocate who helped shepherd our community beginning in May 2022. Kevin’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in cybersecurity education leaves a lasting legacy within the Consortium. While his work for cybersecurity clinics was just part of his broader leadership in the community, we want to share a window into what he meant to those who knew him as a friend and colleague at Stillman College and in the Consortium. Check out this spotlight piece on Mark Lupo, Program Coordinator for the CyberArch program at The University of Georgia, whose stellar career has always centered around helping others. In the CyberArch program, Lupo assists UGA in strengthening cybersecurity across the state while educating and empowering students to form the adaptable workforce of tomorrow. He has overseen the growth in the CyberArch program from eight unpaid student interns to 36 paid interns and two graduate research assistants in less than three years. More than 100 students are on a waiting list to join the program.
