Last week's Public Lands Alliance 2025 convention was a tremendous and inspiring gathering of nonprofit leaders, land management agencies, and businesses. We honored outstanding projects by partners (Hawai'i Pacific Parks Association shown here), taught, learned, and connected with hundreds of committed volunteers and staff from across the nation. Huge kudos to Dan Puskar and the entire PLA team who brought to life our mission to "connect, strengthen, and represent." Sessions spanned wildlife advocacy, agile partnerships, fundraising, AI, volunteer strategies, and more. The 840 million acres of public land in the U.S. (and the respective agencies that manage them) depend on deep, enduring connections with their surrounding communities, with partners, and with each one of us. This legacy of parks, wildlife refuges, forests, and more is integral to our well-being, our economy, our environment, and our sense of who we are. A former missile silo on the California coast now houses…..pumps and pipes for rescued marine mammals? Yep. Call it swords-into-ploughshares or adaptive reuse or a rebirth story, but this is the life-giving heart of The Marine Mammal Center’s infrastructure that enables it to rescue hundreds of seals, sea lions, elephant seals, and more annually (26,0000 since their founding). The Compass Group is proud to advise this client on fundraising as they not only return healthy mammals back to the ocean, but also lead a major research program, train vets from around the world, reduce whale strikes by ships, and open the eyes of thousands of youth and school children each year to the importance of healthy oceans.
