The Communiversity at EMCC

EMCC Automotive Technology graduate and current Diesel Mechanics student Jonathan Forrester is among 14 community college and university students statewide named as Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association (MAMA) 2024-25 scholarship recipients. Forrester, who finished last year with a perfect 4.0 GPA and was named the Outstanding Student in Automotive Technology, is believed to be the first student in the program to be awarded one of the prestigious MAMA scholarships. The inaugural group of aviation industry employees completed a training program at the recently opened Mississippi Advanced Composites (MAC) Training Center at The Communiversity. A result of a partnership between EMCC and Mississippi State University, the center is equipped with industrial-grade equipment not found outside of a manufacturing environment. Treasurer David McRae toured The Communiversity today, along with Assistant Deputy Treasurer Tate Lewis. EMCC President Dr. Scott Alsobrooks, members of his cabinet and EMCC staff met with McRae and Lewis to talk about the programs of study available at EMCC and The Communiversity. McRae, who planned the visit to see what EMCC has to offer, was in town to promote his agency’s Mississippi College & Career Savings program and the fact that the 529 savings-account plan to cover education expenses can be used for career technical and vocational education. EMCC cabinet members and staff in attendance were Dr. Nikita Ashford-Ashworth, Dr. Michael Busby, Ray Hollis, Tammie Holmes, Tony Montgomery and Dr. James Rush.

Today is National Manufacturing Day and we would like to thank our local industry partners, who we work with closely to ensure that our career technical and workforce programs of study meet their needs for a skilled workforce. Our efforts to provide students with relevant training that can lead to well-paying jobs locally would not be successful without their help. The inaugural group of students in the Mississippi Advanced Composites (MAC) Training Center at The Communiversity received their certificates today. The group completed an Advanced Composites Technician training course. Industries that utilize composites, which are commonly used in airplanes, can send their employees to the MAC for training.
