?The Community Preservation Corporation is commemorating five decades of building stronger communities! ? We’re looking forward to coming together to celebrate 50 years of impact, connect with housing innovators and community leaders, and share more about our journey and vision for the future of housing. There’s much to celebrate today. We closed our first fiscal year proud of our $635,000 loan for a rehab of an 87-unit building in Washington Heights—this fiscal year we deployed $640 million in capital and provided stable housing to over 13,000 people. This past year, our 50th, has been uniquely special. CPC secured highly competitive grants and awards, including a $2.4 billion award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the acquisition of the $5.8 billion loan portfolio of rent-stabilized properties formerly held by Signature Bank. We are grateful that we have also received significant recognition from our peers this year. CPC was recently named “Outstanding CDFI” of the year by Opportunity Finance Network, and we're honored to be receiving the “Legacy Impact Award” at the upcoming New York Housing Conference. CPC was glad to be at yesterday’s rally in support of #CityofYes! Along with our friends and partners including Maria Torres-Springer, Dan Garodnick, Adolfo Carrión, Jr., Mark D. Levine, Shams DaBaron, New York Housing Conference, and local faith leaders and unions, we came together at City Hall Park to say YES to City of Yes.? New York City’s zoning regulations have not had a meaningful update in roughly 60 years. They were written in a different era for a different city with different housing priorities and challenges than we have today. With a rental vacancy rate of 1.4%, the lowest it has been since 1968, and 86% of households spending over 50% of their income on rent, it’s abundantly clear that New York City is in a housing crisis. It’s also abundantly clear that this requires action. As our Assistant Vice President, Policy and Government Affairs Emily Klein wrote in her testimony in support of the proposal, City of Yes will update the toolbox of resources available to meet current housing needs and promote more equitable neighborhoods across our city by enabling the construction of more housing of every type appropriate to each community.?
