The Community Grocer?(TCG) is a protest to the existing systems, to food apartheid, and to the idea that good, healthy food is exclusively for those who can afford it. Together, we are reinventing the corner store into a holistic and community-led approach to fresh, delicious, and EBT-eligible meal solutions.?As a 501c3 organization, TCG is by and for the community, reinvesting in our neighbors on every step of the journey. Making eating well easier for all, TCG is committed to ensuring that our neighbors have access to the ingredients to live stronger, healthier lives.

Yesterday was a great day to celebrate The Community Grocer and their innovative and community-driven work in Cobbs Creek with a grant from the AmeriHealth Caritas Foundation. Not only is their model innovative, finding ways to disrupt the SNAP benefit restrictions on hot food, their approach to centering the local community in decision making is extremely powerful. Kudos to Eli, Alexandre, Chef Joy, Miss Bonnie, and the 60th and Walton community, the sky is the limit. Looking forward to the opening in 2025 and our continued partnership to support local residents. #foodismedicine
Today I joined the Community Grocer as they were presented with a $150,000 check from the Amerihealth Foundation that will help open a ‘food pharmacy’ at 60th and Walton! When the Community Grocer, which is currently under construction, opens in early 2025, people with diet-related ailments will be able to use their Medicaid benefits at the grocer’s pharmacy to buy prepared food and grocery items. This innovative idea is possible through a recent rule change from the Biden Administration and I think it’s great! Many thanks to Alex and Eli from the Community Grocery for bringing such a resource to our Cobbs Creek community!

Excited to share that the branding work I led for The Community Grocer has been recognized in the brand identity category for the 61st Annual GDUSA Magazine Design Awards. This is my first independent design award since freelancing and this one means a lot to me. When Eli Moraru and Alexandre Imbot tapped me to design their brand, I instantly connected with their vision of a food pharmacy in West Philly that could afford folks fresh meals with their snap benefits. What they’re building is an extraordinary example of intentional advocacy meets collective action. So I am thankful for them and everyone involved in the project. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, bet on yourself, but most importantly share and invest in others! Plenty of good can come of it. #tcgphilly #graphicdesign #branding #advocacy
