The Community Builders, Inc. (TCB) is a leading nonprofit developer of mixed-income housing in the United States. Our mission is to build and sustain strong communities where all people can thrive. We realize our mission by developing, financing and operating high-quality housing and implementing neighborhood self-help initiatives to drive economic opportunity for our residents. Since 1964, we have constructed or preserved over 320 affordable and mixed-income housing developments and secured over $2.5 billion in project financing from public and private sources. Today, we own or manage more than 10,000 apartments in 14 states and Washington, D.C.

How do we bring heart into public housing??? We’re doing this by redeveloping the Faneuil Gardens public housing complex in Boston into a vibrant and inclusive community. For the last 2 years, MVRDV together with The Community Builders, Inc., Boston Housing Authority, JGE Architecture + Design, Copley Wolff, Langan Engineering & Environmental Services has been working on the Faneuil Garden Public Housing Masterplan. We are replacing 258 affordable housing units and adding 183 income-restricted houses. Through community engagement meetings, we heard and learned a lot, we strengthened Connectivity, Engagement, Inclusivity, and Resilience to create an inclusive, green, and safe neighborhood for the community. Our Woodhill Station West development in #Cleveland has been voted the best! We are thrilled to receive the 2024 Readers’ Choice Award from Affordable Housing Finance. Woodhill Station West provides affordable housing for 120 families and supported a construction training program for 12 local residents. The entire effort was guided by a neighborhood engagement strategy that included 196 community members.
