关于我们
The Communications Network connects, gathers, and informs leaders working in communications for good. The Network is a nonprofit organization comprised of social sector leaders from foundations, nonprofits and consulting firms across the globe who share the belief that smart strategic communications have the power to transform society and improve lives. Founded nearly 30 years ago by the late Frank Karel of The Robert Wood Johnson and Rockefeller Foundations to help social change leaders improve their work and “get the word out”, today The Network is the premier leadership organization for nonprofit communications professionals.

I wrote an article for Stanford Social Innovation Review as part of a The Communications Network series on community-building as an essential part of #communications in the social sector. Thanks to both for showcasing this work! Wikimedia Foundation communications work is driven by the understanding that without a vibrant, connected #community our mission wouldn't be possible - a reality that many #nonprofits and Foundations share. I hope this glimpse behind the scenes of our work and the incredible efforts of the humans who power Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia provides some lessons for any organization working to do good. Read the next essay in our series with Stanford Social Innovation Review written by Network Board Chair Anusha Alikhan of Wikimedia Foundation! Alikhan shows six ways Wikimedia Foundation advances its mission through communications that focus on building community: https://lnkd.in/gNJK95NU
Why building a trusted information ecosystem requires building a community: “Individuals decide to contribute to Wikipedia for many different reasons, but those who stay and become devoted community members often say they do it for the people—the community of Wikimedians. This pull toward human connection is not different from any organization working in the social sector. To make a mission a reality requires a commitment to building community, and communications is at the heart of it.” Anusha Alikhan of the?Wikimedia Foundation, the global nonprofit that operates Wikipedia, lays out six ways in which the foundation is advancing its mission of free knowledge for all through communications that put community building at the forefront: 1 Emphasize a common identity 2 Invest in communications for community-building 3 Showcase collective impact 4 Center equity and transparency 5 Co-create to meet new opportunities 6 Protect community rights ?? Learn from forward-thinking foundations and nonprofits that have begun evolving the way they do communications in the “Communication in an Era of Social Change” essay series produced with The Communications Network: https://lnkd.in/eXSHK3VN

Social good organizations have a huge role to play in mending broken trust and building bridges across differences. The Communications Network and Stanford Social Innovation Review have teamed up on a series to provide a view into the work of Foundation and nonprofit #communications approaches that put community-building at the forefront. Sean Gibbons and Tristan Mohabir from the Communications Network opened the series with this strong call to action: "Put simply, the 20th-century broadcast model of mass communication simply doesn’t cut it anymore. Foundations and nonprofits need to focus on community building rather than just pushing messages to an audience..." https://lnkd.in/eThmmBk8 A new piece by Stefan Lanfer and Jim Canales of Barr Foundation dropped this week, capturing where the attention of social sector organizations must sit: "If the center of marketing-oriented communications is the market, the center of mission-oriented communications is relationships and building trust that binds us together." https://lnkd.in/eWT63Hxi Follow along on SSIR!
