El Comercio, a bilingual newsroom, received this award for a Spanish article about the 2023 Pulse Poll, which highlighted alarming statistics about Coloradans' mental health. Racial justice and health equity go hand in hand. Accessing basic health resources has become increasingly challenging for many Coloradans. Black, Latinx, Native and Indigenous communities in particular often face more barriers to health support, and as a result, experience health inequities even more. Addressing systemic discrimination and social determinants of health that disproportionately impact communities of color is the first step to achieving health equity.

Colorado is facing a health equity crisis, with more than half a million Coloradans having lost Medicaid coverage in the past year. Medicaid is critical to the health and well-being of Colorado communities and must be a priority to our leadership. KSUT Tribal Radio, an Indigenous public radio program serving the Four Corners, recently reported on a cultural event in Durango that connected Native American youth with traditional ceremonies through the Indigenous round dance. Colorado youth deserve the chance to explore the great outdoors in our beautiful state. Now, with a $105,000 grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO)'s Generation Wild program, the Montrose Recreation District will be able to continue connecting local youth to accessible outdoor programming and outdoor career opportunities!

??JUST IN: Globeville Elyria-Swansea (GES) Coalition’s Tierra Colectiva Community Land Trust and Globeville Redevelopment Partners received a $6 million investment from The Colorado Health Foundation for a transformative, community-driven affordable housing project. This initiative will create 170 affordable homes, as well as community spaces, a new library branch, and a cafe, all designed to support multi-generational families.
