Second-highest trash count ever! Our team collected a WHOPPING 830 pieces of trash during our EPAP plastic assessment survey at Albany Beach on Sunday, March 2nd. Huge thanks to Lead Intern Zamira (Cabrillo College), and new intern Ahyan (Berkeley City College) for making this day a success. EPAP goes beyond a simple beach cleanup; it’s about gathering critical data to inform stronger policies and sustainable practices in the fight against plastic pollution. At COI, we believe in reducing oceanic plastic pollution through research, innovation, and direct action. Every volunteer and data point gets us one step closer to cleaner, healthier oceans. If you’re interested in learning more or contributing to our mission, connect with us here or visit our website at www.cointl.org. Together, we can transform data into real, impactful change.

Research-Innovation-Direct Action: "Assessing Global Plastic Pollution and Turning Plastic Waste into Valuable Products"
关于我们
Overview: At Clean Oceans International (COI), our mission is to reduce plastic pollution on land and in our oceans through research, innovation, and direct action. Founded in 2008 in Santa Cruz, California, COI develops practical solutions to the plastic waste crisis, empowering communities worldwide. Portable Plastic Waste Conversion (PPWC): We are advancing our PPWC technology to help keep plastic out of natural environments. In partnership with Oregon State University (OSU), we’re moving this innovation from prototype to mainstream while ensuring human and environmental safety through independent oversight. COI collaborates with institutions like Cabrillo College, UC Santa Cruz and OSU to educate the next generation of decision-makers and inspire localized action to reduce plastic waste. Environmental Plastic Assessment Program (EPAP): COI’s EPAP tracks the magnitude and distribution of plastic debris through citizen science. Since 2014, EPAP has mobilized over 1,200 volunteers in beach cleanups and plastic monitoring at locations in Monterey Bay, Lake Tahoe, Hawaii and globally Brazil, Cuba, and Micronesia. COI’s 18 Coastal Cleanups with Cabrillo College have removed more than 10,000 pounds of trash, underscoring our commitment to preserving coastal ecosystems and fostering environmental stewardship. Through the new Beach Adoption Program, volunteer groups like 'Clean Oceans Albany' contribute to our growing EPAP database. This enables communities to analyze plastic pollution and use real-time insights to drive change. Specialties: Sustainability, Portable Plastic Waste Conversion/PPWC, Environmental Plastic Assessment Program/EPAP, Community Engagement and Education, Research, Innovation, Direct Action, Collaboration, Advanced Recycling, Driving the New Plastic Economy, and Reducing the use of plastic.

Dirty river in, clean river out in Kingston, Jamaica. ???? But it took a lot of work and collaboration to get here. Watch the full story of Interceptor 015 deployment here: https://lnkd.in/e9HzZJ8g.

The Ocean Cleanup making a difference.
Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental problems we face today. How do you solve it? Today marks one year since we deployed Interceptor 019 in Bangkok, Thailand. ???? To date, it has prevented over 166,000 kg of trash from entering the ocean and increased awareness and visibility of the issue among the thousands of people who pass by it every day, but it's not enough. A problem of this size must be tackled from multiple angles. We are happy to see Thailand also taking action by incorporating a law banning plastic waste imports last month. What do you think can help accelerate solving the plastic pollution problem?

Let's be mindful of #SingleUsePlastic and #change #ConsumerBehavior. #Reduce #Refuse #Reuse #Recycle Thank you Harald Friedl for highlighting this critical factor.
The plastic recycling lie ? 91% of the material is lost, burned or buried ?? ?? The facts of how plastic is 'wasted', are dramatic: ?? 49% landfilled. ?? 22% mismanaged (!) ?? 19% burned. ?? 9% is recycled. ?? Boardroom leaders: You can't ignore this any more! ?? Time to revolutionise your product design and business models. We need stronger regulation. And alternative materials. Fast. 1 billion tires are trashed each year. This company turns them to cash again: Instead of landfilling or burning the tires, Freee Recycle Limited is turning 400,000 tires into: ?? bricks ?? flip flops ?? even floor tiles This means: ? less tires on the landfills ? CO2 savings for each product ? 150 new jobs, turning waste into wealth Could this work in other countries? Let's stop trashing our planet. Let's go circular, and turn trash to cash.
