Our Historic Preservation team is attending this year’s The Association for Preservation Technology International (APT) Conference in Montreal, Canada. This international event, themed "Building Bridges: Connecting Places, Cultures & Practices," brings together organizations such as the National Trust for Canada, the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP), and the Indigenous Heritage Circle. The conference offers a valuable opportunity to engage with experts and celebrate Montreal’s unique blend of history, culture, and preservation practices. We’re excited to connect with partners like Kate Allen Lezak and the team at Allen Architectural Metals, whose dedication to preservation aligns with our commitment to protecting and revitalizing historic spaces. Historic preservation is a passion that runs deep here at Christman. It goes beyond saving a building—it’s about preserving the stories, energy, and history held within its walls, while also making a positive environmental impact by reusing and revitalizing existing spaces. Welcome to our series, “Discovering My Passion for Preservation at Christman.” Today, we’re featuring George Conley III, superintendent in the DC Metro region and a dedicated member of our Historic Preservation Group. How did you find your way to historic preservation? "My passion for preservation work began right after my apprenticeship as a mason, and I’ve been doing it ever since. I’ve always loved history and learning how things were built. When working on preservation projects, you never know what you’ll discover—there are ideas, but nothing is certain." What drives your passion for it? "I love the techniques involved in preservation. Bringing old buildings back to life is incredibly gratifying, knowing that a 200+ year-old building might still be standing because of the work we’ve done." #HistoricPreservation #BuiltHistory #PreservationPassion #Revitalization #MonumentalWork

Take a look behind-the-scenes at the ongoing work at University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB)’s historic Davidge Hall! ?? Davidge Hall, formerly known as the College of Medicine of Maryland, opened in November 1812 and stands as the oldest building in the Western Hemisphere continuously used for medical education. This iconic, circular domed building is a true architectural gem with heavy timber and steel construction, massive brick walls, and an impressive listing on the National Register of Historic Buildings. It houses offices, museum artifacts, a conference room, and two unique round amphitheaters: Chemical Hall and Anatomical Hall. Right now, our team, led by Ben Canoles, Durable superintendent, is hard at work cleaning the copper to ensure this landmark stays in top shape for future generations. Stay tuned for more updates and progress photos as we continue to preserve this important piece of history! #ConstructionLife #HistoricPreservation #DavidgeHall #TeamworkInAction #UniversityOfMaryland #BuildingHistory #CopperCleaning #NationalRegister

Our passion for preservation, and more importantly, for the people who make it possible, was on full display as we celebrated 40 years of historic preservation and honored the legacy of our leader, Ron Staley, FAPT, APT RP. The perfect backdrop for this milestone? Michigan Central Station, the crowning achievement of Ron’s illustrious career. It was a true homecoming—a reunion of those who paved the way, joined the journey, and will carry his legacy forward. A heartfelt thank you to the clients, architects, engineers, conservators, and trade contractors who joined us in this celebration. At the end of the day, it’s the people and the partnerships that help us fulfill our mission: sharing our legacy of intentional specialization in historic preservation contracting to enrich the world around us. Here's to the past, present, and future of preserving our history, one place at a time.?

“To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…” – Woodrow Wilson Thank you, Veterans.
