“Women hold up half the sky”... and 95% of the early childhood workforce?? This Women’s History Month, we want to highlight some facts about the women and femme who shape the minds of the next generation. They are highly skilled, experienced educators — who also happen to be vastly underpaid and overworked. Caregiving and educational roles have been under-compensated for a long time, and the wage gap impacts women of color to an even greater extent. It’s time for this to change. In our work at Children’s Institute and with the Early Childhood Coalition, we are working to support not only children throughout Oregon but the amazing educators and caregivers who make their thriving possible. They deserve the very best.?? Here’s to celebrating and fighting for equality for all the amazing women we call family, coworkers, teachers, change-makers, and inspirations to the world. We need your story! On Mar. 4, Oregon lawmakers will hold a public hearing at 8:00 a.m. on HB 3201. HB 3201 would increase access to healthy and culturally relevant food for children in child care through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), a program that reimburses nutritious meals for children in child care centers, family care homes, afterschool programs, and emergency shelters. We were live at KOIN Tower this morning for KOIN AM Extra! Kali Thorne Ladd and Senator Lisa Reynolds talked about Oregon’s Momnibus package, and how these policies—like making sure moms and birthing parents have access to doulas during and after pregnancy—are key in setting babies up for success in life.

Our Choose Children Day of Action this Monday in Salem was a testament to the power of cross-sector collaboration to push forward policies that will ensure Oregon's youngest children have what they need in health (doulas!), education (child care!), and family support services (relief nurseries!).
