But wait you say…….. staffing is a bear, especially during the Holidays!?How am I supposed to balance time off requests and caring for the residents? ? There are no magic bullets.?And I don’t pretend to have the answers, it was a struggle every year when I was a NHA. ? Regardless, leaders in Skilled Nursing have a pivotal role in recognizing and addressing this.?Ensuring staff have adequate time off in December isn't just a scheduling task; it's an act of empathy and care. ? It's about protecting our team's well-being, truly understanding that they have lives and relationships beyond work walls. ? Creating a supportive work environment means acknowledging the pressures that come with extended work hours.?Talk about it at a staff meeting, get out on the floor and ‘touch’ the people caring for the residents, give staff an extra 15 minute break while the department heads manage the floor.?These small gestures can make a significant difference in the lives of those who dedicate themselves to caring for others. ?
