Expert Laura Harris from ThriveWorks in Raleigh points out the barriers: shame, lack of representation, cultural appropriateness, and accessibility. These factors contribute to the stigma around seeking mental health support within the Black community. Harris emphasizes the importance of culturally competent counselors who understand the nuances of mental health trauma and diverse backgrounds.
