    Chief Executive Officer at Carlyle

    Hi everyone, it’s great to finally join LinkedIn. Now in my third year as CEO of The Carlyle Group, I’m privileged to help drive our next phase of growth. My path to Carlyle was a bit unconventional. I had many challenges in high school. My parents were highly educated but struggled with severe mental health issues. Along the way, a number of people intervened in my life—I refer to them as my angels. With their help I eventually found my way to Rutgers University, working part time as a bouncer. In 1987, I began my career at J.B. Hanauer & Co. making cold calls to sell municipal bonds. On my first day, the stock market crashed.? At Citi, I worked my way up from a temp and later specialized in structuring commodity derivatives. Many people know me from my time at Goldman Sachs, where I served as Chief Financial Officer and Global Co-Head of the Securities Division before serving as President and Co-Chief Operating Officer. I’m proud to have helped lead the firm through some of the most complex times in global markets. When Carlyle came calling, the firm’s iconic brand, storied place in financial history, and the vision of its three remarkable co-founders made it an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I feel incredibly fortunate to be here and to work with such a talented, driven team every day. Outside of work I serve on the board of One Mind, a nonprofit that accelerates collaborative research and advocacy to enable all individuals facing brain health challenges to build healthy, productive lives. I’m also still actively involved with Rutgers University, serving on the Board of Governors and supporting a program I launched a decade ago to sponsor students and connect those with interest in finance to opportunities in the industry. In my spare time, I cycle, meditate, and hold a black belt in martial arts.?? The ecosystem of finance is constantly reinventing itself, and I’m fascinated to lead, learn, and grow along with it.     Carlyle’s #GlobalCredit platform, through its European Direct Lending strategy, has acted as the sole lender in providing a tailored financing package to support PAI Partners in the acquisition of NUZOA, the leading distributor of animal health products and services in Iberia. Founded in 2020, Nuzoa has experienced rapid growth to become the leading distributor in the veterinary sector in Iberia, focused on providing its “one-stop-shop” offering, which includes pharmaceuticals, pet food and consumables, to veterinary clinics, pet retailers and livestock businesses across the region. This transaction will support Nuzoa to expand its geographical footprint, continue its successful consolidation strategy and accelerate its growth plans. Taj Sidhu, Head of European and Asian Private Credit, said: “We are delighted to support PAI’s acquisition of Nuzoa, a business that is well positioned to benefit from the growing animal health distribution market in Spain. This transaction underlines our strategy of partnering with high-quality, experienced sponsors, and supporting domestic champions to realize their long-term growth ambitions.”

    Carlyle’s #GlobalCredit platform announced today that it has provided a strategic investment of EUR 250 million to Sanoptis, one of #Europe’s largest ophthalmology services providers with over 450 locations across Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Austria and Greece. The investment, which is through a preferred equity instrument, will be used to accelerate Sanoptis’ growth, including the continued expansion of the company’s European footprint through M&A and investment in state-of-the-art technologies and treatments. Adnan Khalef, a Managing Director in Carlyle’s European Private Credit business, said: “We are delighted to provide this strategic investment to Sanoptis in order to strengthen and expand their leading position in ophthalmology services in Europe.     Today, Fortitude Re announced it has entered into a $4 billion annuity reinsurance agreement with Taiyo Life Insurance Company. This transaction marks Fortitude Re’s second reinsurance transaction with Taiyo Life and the company’s sixth deal in Japan. Fortitude Re CEO Alon Neches said, “The track record Fortitude Re has built in Japan underscores the power of the partnership between Fortitude Re and its shareholders.
