Meet Xavier, a brave 10-year-old in 4th grade who began experiencing severe stomach aches, which quickly led to an ER visit. Tests revealed a large mass on his spleen and smaller ones on his liver and pancreas. Xavi spent months in the ICU and oncology floor but is now home, though his battle continues with weekly hospital visits and regular chemotherapy treatments. His mother, the sole financial provider, had to take unpaid leave from work to care for Xavi and his siblings. This has put a tremendous financial strain on their family. Care Fund is thrilled to have welcomed some incredible new members to our Board of Directors in 2024. Meet Rebecca Short, Director of Operations for the Digital Team at PPG Industries. Rebecca is a transformation leader with proven capabilities in building, managing, and training high performing teams by setting goals and crafting plans to achieve them. She is proficient in building effective working relationships and trust with stakeholders. Rebecca has supported the implementation and execution of large-scale ($10M+plus) technology partner agreements, from sourcing through delivery. Rebecca and her husband, Joe Vannelli, Division President of Woodside Homes, AZ, attended the most recent Care Fund Gala with some of their network friends and trade partners. Woodside contributes annually to the Care Fund and has arranged for a per transaction contribution through one of their preferred lenders. Early in her career, Rebecca was a property manager and personally witnessed the stress of families who were evicted from their homes due to severe medical issues and the resulting financial burden. Multiple families lost their homes since they were unable to pay their mortgages, and as a result moved into the community she was managing. Rebecca also worked with city and state sponsored assistance programs to help families get the extra financial support needed to bridge the gap between job losses, medical issues, or other changes in living situations. Offering financial help for even a short amount of time (3-6 months) can make the difference between a family staying in their home or having to experience the added trauma of losing their home and moving during a medical crisis.
