关于我们

The CapTable is crafted to hold a mirror to India’s dynamic new economy and enable you to make high-impact decisions. How did we arrive here? For fast-growing companies, the capitalization table (cap table) details all the shareholders — founders, employees, investors — and the equity they own. It is reflective of the essence of a firm. We will bring that to you. Our team promises to always be predisposed to listening to all the sides of a story and delivering the closest version of the truth to you. This, we believe, is our wider moral responsibility to you, our readers. Why now? India’s startup ecosystem has the world’s attention for the market potential it enjoys as well as its transformative innovations. This rapid growth, though, has brought with it noise and obscurity that we will help you declutter. We will empower you with breaking news, analysis, and sharp insights — everything you will need to know to form an educated opinion for your decision-making. The CapTable is a YourStory Product

#ICYMI | Lots of cricket ?? action lined up for the weekend, but here's something on another fast-growing sport that is taking over India currently. #Pickleball, a blend of tennis ?? badminton ?? and table tennis ?? has blown up in the country in the last 12-15 months. The CapTable has the inside track on it. Thanks Arjun Vaidya for your inputs as an investor as well as an active pickleball player. ?? READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/duChEth7

About 1 year ago, I predicted pickleball would do well in India. What's happening now is a boom beyond what I imagined. When I first tried pickleball 15 months back, I couldn't take it seriously. As a 20-year squash player, hitting a plastic ball with what looked like an oversized ping-pong paddle seemed unserious. And, the name didn’t go well with me ??. Two games in, I was addicted. The numbers show I wasn't alone: 1. Courts have grown from 200 to 1,200+ in a single year (10-12X increase) 2. 300% growth in active players in just three years 3. Court bookings up 2-3X monthly on KheloMore In the US, pickleball already has more players than football (soccer). In India, it's creating entirely new social and economic ecosystems: → When I installed a court at my Alibag vacation rental, monetization jumped 20% overnight.? → The Hosteller (a backpacker chain and our portfolio company) is adding courts to many properties.? → Corporate offices like Myntra and Duroflex are converting meeting rooms to pickleball spaces. And this wasn't happening with badminton or tennis because they're not as participative. The skill level required to get going is much higher. Pickle is a perfect social solution to urban isolation. You can literally play with anyone! This proves that the real opportunity here goes beyond sports—it's real community building. At GoRally in Bangalore and Dink Pickleball in Surat (both my angel investments) people are finding communities business connections, and even dates/investors. Spaces are booked out for amateur tournaments and corporate networking events every week. Surat even had a coffee rave and I hosted a friend’s wedding party pickle ball tournament last week. In terms of fitness levels India is a "walking nation," not a "running nation." Most sports exclude those who aren't already fit, but pickleball welcomes everyone. As we strive to become a healthier country, pickleball offers the perfect on-ramp to fitness—social, fun, and non-intimidating. There's a reason it's projected to be an Olympic sport by 2036. And why I believe we'll reach 1 million players well before the projected 2028 timeline. India is indeed not for beginners, but pickleball definitely is :) Last year, anyone who put up a court or made paddles got sales. Now, with increased supply the opportunity is more nuanced and just doing something isn’t enough. Those that launch quality courts, own the?experience i.e. a cafe and community, high quality paddles with cool branding - will win! Have you played yet? PS: thank you Sohini Mitter for this detailed deep dive in The CapTable. And, for listening to what I had to say! Today's #freeread: ?? India's telecom titans #Jio and #Airtel are finding common ground to protect their virtual duopoly. ??? But even as the duo oppose spectrum surrender policies and align on #satellite spectrum allocation, the DoT's proposed relief measures for the sector could soon test the limits of their alliance, writes Pratap Vikram Singh. ?????? Though #designthinking is not a new concept, its utility beyond just designing products—to the point of informing larger business decisions in an organisation—is a relatively more recent phenomenon. Pranav Balakrishnan covers this—and the phenomenon of bento box layouts in big-name Indian apps like #Swiggy and #PhonePe—on The CapTable, today. Why your everyday apps are starting to look like a Japanese lunch box? ?? A few weeks ago, I was having a Bento box meal when my designer friend casually said, “BTW, the Bento box layout is a big trend in tech UI.” Next thing I know, I’m seeing it everywhere—Swiggy, Zepto, Tata Neu, PhonePe. Once you notice it, you can’t unsee it. So I started digging. Spoke to a few folks in design and tech. Turns out, this isn’t just about making apps look neat and cute. It’s?a playbook for influencing user behavior. It’s a strategic tool to guide user behaviour, prioritise services, and create intuitive navigation through careful sizing and placement of interface elements. Consequently, a company’s business priorities reflect in these layouts. Companies use tile sizes to highlight key services and nudge users towards them. Design is no longer just about aesthetics. It’s shaping strategy, engagement, and even revenue. A designer's work sits at the crossroads of technology, psychology, and visual storytelling, requiring a blend of analytical thinking and creativity. Because of its role in shaping user behaviour, design has evolved from a purely visual role to a critical strategic function, with top companies now giving designers a seat at the decision-making table. Next time you open an app, take a second to notice. That layout? It’s not just pretty. It’s persuasion. [Link in the comments]

?? What started as a lunch box design for Japanese schoolchildren is now inspiring digital experiences in India: Indian apps like Swiggy and PhonePe are tweaking their interfaces to look like bento boxes. ?? Of course, UI design isn't just about looking good: it’s a strategic tool to guide user behaviour, prioritise services, and create intuitive navigation through careful sizing and placement of interface elements. ?? Consequently, a company’s business priorities reflect in these layouts. Companies use tile sizes to highlight key services and nudge users towards them. ?????? Because of its role in shaping user behaviour, design has evolved from a purely visual role to a critical strategic function, with top companies now giving designers a seat at the decision-making table. ???? How much do you think #design influences your app experience? Read Pranav Balakrishnan’s examination of India’s top apps and their #UI, and how they reveal more about a company than you’d think.
