On September 26, 2024, Invest for Impact Nepal (IIN) and the Nepal Bankers' Association (NBA) successfully hosted a groundbreaking seminar aimed at integrating Climate Finance and Green Finance Taxonomy into Nepal’s banking industry. The event featured distinguished guests, including Mr. Maha Prasad Adhikari, Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank; H.E. Dr. Danielle Meuwly, Ambassador of Switzerland to Nepal; and Mr. Michael Jongeneel, CEO of FMO - Dutch entrepreneurial development bank. Over 200 representatives from regulatory bodies, commercial and development banks, development finance institutions, and key development partners participated in this important dialogue. A pivotal highlight of the seminar was the launch of the Sustainable Finance Department at the NBA, designed to guide Nepal’s banking sector toward a low-carbon, greener, and more resilient economy. The seminar was anchored on an insightful keynote presentation by Ms. Yulanda C. from IBIS Consulting. Her discussion covered critical topics such as climate risks, effective management strategies within the banking sector, climate opportunities for Nepal, and an overview of the nation’s green taxonomy. The event concluded with a dynamic panel discussion on integrating Climate Finance and Green Finance Taxonomy into banking operations, featuring esteemed panellists: ?? NOAA’s Industry Proving Grounds (IPG) team recently attended the Climate Symposium at the AIA Aspire Conference in Asheville, North Carolina. They introduced our upcoming Typical Meteorological Year (TMY) product, a cutting-edge tool designed to provide architects and engineers with comprehensive, easy-to-use climate data. TMY will offer an interactive map showcasing typical weather conditions across the U.S., including historical data and future climate projections. This tool is specifically designed to support professionals in building energy simulations, assessing annual variability, and evaluating future climate impacts on design. The feedback from attendees has been insightful, and we’re excited to continue refining the TMY tool to better meet the needs of the architecture and engineering sectors. As part of the IPG initiative, our goal is to enhance access to critical climate information, enabling more informed decision-making and robust, climate-resilient design practices. USAID/Philippines' BEACON cybersecurity team has gone above and beyond this week working with our partners across the Government of the Philippines to further train officials and educate the public on cybersecurity risks, mitigation and compliance via three significant activities. On Monday, we kicked off a five-day intensive training on U.S. Department of Commerce/National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)'s Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) for officials from across the Philippines Department of Budget and Management with the support of Undersecretary Maria Francesca Montes- Del Rosario, GICD, CIPM and USAID's Amy Lovejoy. On Tuesday, we partnered with the Department of Information and Communications Technology - Philippines, Trend Micro and PwC Philippines to do a deep dive into the National Cybersecurity Plan 2023-2028 at Trend Micro's annual DECODE convention which draws over 800+ cybersecurity professionals, with presentations by Assistant Secretary Wilroy Ticzon, Cybersecurity Bureau Director Jose Carlos Reyes, Robert McArdle, Vincenzo Ciancaglini, Mark Anthony P. Almodovar, and others. On Wednesday, with the National Privacy Commission, we supported an engaging technical discussion on "Breaches and Data Privacy in the Age of AI", with partners from PwC Philippines, Department of Information and Communications Technology - Philippines, U.S. Embassy in the Philippines and speakers such as Undersecretary Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, Dominic Ligot, Atty Rainier Milanes, Atty.
