There is no easy way to say this. We are heartbroken and infuriated that Donald Trump's cruelty has prevailed in this election. In the years ahead, we expect the abortion access landscape to become (somehow) even more hostile – and in the face of that, our team at The Brigid Alliance is ready and able to double down on our support for abortion seekers. And Brigid is not alone. We do this work in partnership with the courageous abortion access network that we are a part of. Our movement is strong. We are resilient. We are creative. We have grappled with immense challenges in the past – indeed, we are grappling with them every single day. It’s now up to all of us to summon that strength and resilience and creativity, keep our head up, and never, ever give up. Remember, people struggled to access abortion care before Donald Trump was president, and before the Dobbs ruling in 2022. Together, we have already helped thousands of people access abortion care. Today we're excited to announce that Serra Sippel, who has successfully led The Brigid Alliance as Interim Executive Director since March 2023, was appointed as the permanent Executive Director. Congratulations to Serra – please join us in welcoming her to this role! Under Serra's leadership, we have doubled our staff, tripled the number of bilingual staff, hired new leadership to accelerate the capacity of client services, and expanded new partnerships with clinics to increase our capacity to receive referrals from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. As we head into this next chapter with Serra as Executive Director, we are poised to significantly increase the number of clients we serve. Please take the time today to read and listen to the powerful and eye-opening story of Emma and Zack, a family in South Carolina who were forced to travel hundreds of miles to access the abortion care that they needed when they discovered multiple anomalies while pregnant with their third child. People who decide to get an abortion, whatever the reason, should be able to get one without delay, without judgment, and without massive financial barriers. And no one should be forced to travel for abortion care. Leidy’s journey as a first-generation queer immigrant, and her seasoned experience in public health and reproductive rights, position her to lead our team with empathy and expertise. Leidy’s skills, particularly in trauma-informed care and digital program integration, developed at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, will be vital in enhancing our services and adapting to the evolving landscape of abortion access.
