Brain Injury Association of Delaware's Mission: Our mission is to create a better future for all through brain injury prevention, education, advocacy, and support. A Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is not just a medical condition; it's a life-altering event that reshapes the very essence of our existence. Defined by bumps, jolts, or blows to the head, TBIs disrupt the normal function of the brain, leaving an indelible mark on how we think, act, and feel. ?? Did You Know? Every year, around 2.87 million individuals in the United States face the daunting challenge of traumatic brain injuries. Within this staggering number, 56,800 lives are lost, with 2,529 precious children among them. A further 812,000 children seek emergency treatment for concussions or traumatic brain injuries. In the state of Delaware alone, approximately 20,000 brave souls grapple with the aftermath of a brain injury. ?? A Beacon of Hope: Brain Injury Association of Delaware (BIAD) In the face of these statistics, the Brain Injury Association of Delaware (BIAD) stands as a steadfast ally, providing education, support, advocacy, and resourceful guidance to families affected by brain injuries. Our commitment transcends the numbers, reaching out to enhance the recovery process and instill hope in the hearts of survivors. ?? The Path to Prevention and Recovery Increased public awareness is our shield against the silent epidemic of brain injuries. Understanding the unpredictable consequences is the first step toward prevention. Let's unite to create a society that values and safeguards the sanctity of every mind. ?? How You Can Make a Difference: Support BIAD The Brain Injury Association of Delaware needs your support to continue our crucial mission. By supporting BIAD, you contribute to the creation of avenues that lead to an increased quality of life for many Delawareans affected by brain injuries. ?? ??? In Memory of U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. (1937-2024) ??? From all of us at the Brain Injury Association of Delaware, we are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. (D-N.J.) on August 21, 2024, at the age of 87. “We are deeply saddened by the news that Rep. Pascrell has passed away,” said Rick Willis, President and CEO of the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA). “For decades, Rep. Pascrell has been a leader in advancing brain injury policy on Capitol Hill. He was a true ally to the brain injury community, and continuously helped our advocates push for greater access to care, expanded brain injury research and resources, and increased congressional awareness of important brain injury issues. BIAA will always be extremely grateful to Rep. Pascrell for his tireless support for the brain injury community. Our thoughts go out to his family, loved ones, and dedicated staff.” In 2001, Rep. Pascrell co-founded the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force, where he served as co-chair since its inception. His unwavering commitment to increasing awareness of brain injury, supporting research initiatives, and addressing the impact of these injuries on all Americans has made a lasting impact. His efforts championed funding for vital programs, including the Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury Research Program and the National Intrepid Center of Excellence. Most recently, he was the House sponsor of the Dennis John Beningo Traumatic Brain Injury Program Reauthorization Act. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, staff, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him. His passing is a significant loss to the brain injury community, and his legacy will be remembered and honored by all. #BIAA #BrainInjuryAwareness #BillPascrell #InMemory #CongressionalBrainInjuryTaskForce

BIADE is excited to share the following updates from the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA): In a major victory for the brain injury community, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has officially recognized traumatic brain injury (TBI) as a chronic health condition! This recognition is a huge step forward in validating the long-term impact of brain injuries and ensuring better support and resources for those affected. Action Alert: Save the CDC's Injury Center! A proposed Congressional budget bill threatens to defund the CDC's Injury Center, jeopardizing critical brain injury programs and data resources. We need your help to stop this! Contact your representatives and voice your opposition. Sponsored Message: Participate in a National Telehealth Healthy Lifestyle Study! Baylor Scott & White and the North Texas TBI Model System are recruiting individuals with TBI for a telehealth-based intervention study. If you are 18-80 years old, at least 6 months post TBI, and able to participate in physical activity, you may be eligible. Compensation provided. Contact Stephanie Calhoun at 214.228.5181 or [email protected] for more information. #BrainInjuryAwareness #ChronicCondition #Advocacy
