We are excited to share some BIG decisions we made during the first half of our fall semester! On September 16th, we unanimously voted to sell our position in Penn Entertainment $PENN, after the recent disappointing performance. We are also thrilled to share the stocks we chose to be pitched at the end of the semester: Celsius ($CELH), Hims & Hers ($HIMS), Nov Inc. ($NOV), Planet Fitness ($PLNT), and Yeti ($YETI). We're excited to continue developing our skills together this year as we make these important decisions!

This past Friday, the Bowden Investment Group Class of 2025 had the opportunity to travel to the beautiful Blowing Rock Country Club. We would like to extend a huge thank you to the fantastic team at BRCC for making this event possible! The group arrived ready and excited for our fourth and final BIG Day, which have kicked off our?professional development journeys. We refined our resumes and LinkedIn profiles to better tell our personal stories. This intensive session allowed us to refine our professional skills and gain valuable insights as we enter recruiting season–which is a game changer! Additionally, the day featured an etiquette luncheon led by Amy Odom, the Executive Director of Business Career Services, where members had the chance to learn and practice proper table manners. Amy's guidance helped us refine our dining etiquette, improving both our professional demeanor and social interactions. We would also like to express our gratitude to Brandy Hadley, Ph.D., and Shawn W. Poole for their efforts in organizing and facilitating a space that supports members' professional development. We look forward to the opportunities we will have to continue to grow our skills and resumes throughout the year!

This past Wednesday, we had the pleasure of welcoming LPL Financial's Madie Ludwick and our very own Corbin Lammers to speak to the current Bowden Investment Group! Before Madie and Corbin took it away with the facts, figures, and handouts, Corbin “rang” us in by sounding a mini gong (a class gift from BIG '24)! Madie Ludwick, who developed and leads LPL Financial’s Finance Analytics Risk Rotational (FAR) Program, gave an amazing presentation about the company and the program. The FAR Program offers college seniors a full-time rotational experience after graduation, helping them discover their passions and interact with industry leaders. We truly appreciate her taking the time to visit us during this busy recruiting season. We were also thrilled to welcome back Corbin Lammers, a 2024 BIG alumnus! Corbin shared his insights on transitioning into corporate culture and his day-to-day life at LPL Financial. He reflected on how his time with BIG prepared him for his new role. We sincerely appreciate the time and support our alumni and supporters pour into this program. It wouldn’t be possible without you!

This past week, the Bowden Investment Group Class of 2025 had the opportunity to travel to Appalachian State University’s Camp Broadstone. We would like to offer a huge thank you to App State UREC's Jacob Norris and Sydney for leading our group through team-building exercises. Members arrived bright and early to start the long day of challenges and exercises aimed at bringing the group closer together. Many of the presented activities challenged our communication skills and team's problem-solving skills. Although we enjoyed all of the fun challenges presented, we all agreed that the leaders saved the best for last. Our last activity, called the Boiler Room Challenge, involved “fixing” a broken part in an overflowing boiler room. In order to successfully complete the challenge, our team had to brainstorm a solution to replace the broken part and save the boat from filling up with boiling water. In a creative mood, the Bowden Investment Group decided to harness Collin Sadler and use a pulley-like system to drag him toward his target. Although the brainstorming and problem-solving process was laborious and constantly changing, our group managed to succeed and complete the challenge! We would also like to extend a thank you to Brandy Hadley, Ph.D., and Shawn W. Poole for coordinating and facilitating a space for members to grow as a team. We look forward to continuing to grow closer and stronger as a team throughout the rest of the year!

The Bowden Investment Group had the wonderful opportunity to travel to New York City earlier this month to compete in the Quinnipiac GAME Forum. While we did not come away with the win, we did gain experience and invaluable knowledge from the numerous panels and guest speakers. While in NYC, we also had the opportunity to visit a number of financial firms, including Pagaya, Evercore, and Pzena. In our free time, the group explored the city, ventured to the top of the Empire State Building, and even had the incredible opportunity to visit the New York Stock Exchange and witness the Opening Bell. Overall, it was a fantastic opportunity, and we are all so grateful for the alumni and donors who make trips like these so memorable.
