After years of underinvestment, Mattapan Square is showing new life. Apartment buildings have sprung up, especially near stops on the Commuter Rail’s Fairmount Line. New bus lanes are coming too, to be installed in the center of Blue Hill Ave. A long-discussed neighborhood plan is now official, with zoning that aims to spur along new multistory, mixed-use buildings and support smaller, locally owned businesses.
