The Battery Saloon is the not-for-profit subsidiary of Ion Gates Consulting, launched in August 2024 at the 9Zero Climate Innovation Hub in San Francisco to accelerate the Global Energy Transition. We unite key stakeholders in the Clean Energy sector to address the main challenges of the Net Zero journey. Our role involves gathering insights from thought leaders, technical experts, industry pioneers, regulators, and academics to guide investors and founders on urgent and impactful investment areas. About Dr. Richard Watson: Richard (Rick) Watson is the Research Director of Digital Frontier Partners, a boutique information systems strategy consulting company in Melbourne, Australia. He retired from the The The University of Georgia in June 2023 and maintains his association as the Regents Professor and J. Rex Fuqua Distinguished Chair for Internet Strategy Emeritus. He was the Research Director for the Advanced Practices Council of the Society of Information Management for about a decade. He worked with about 30 CIOs of major corporations (e.g., Pfizer and ConocoPhillips) to assist them in identifying strategic applications of new technologies. As a decade-long visiting scholar at the RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, he co-led the development of #MaritimeInformatics and co-edited the first two books on the theme. He has also done seminal work on #EnergyInformatics, Conceptual Knowledge Analytics, and Internet Strategy. Please join us to be a part of this enlightening discussion. Summary: No general wants to fight an enemy on a level battlefield because the outcome will likely be an indeterminant stalemate (e.g., the four years of trench warfare in WW1). Without an asymmetric edge, organizations should also avoid level playing grounds. Otherwise, they will likely find themselves in the trenches of a price war. Using a framework that identifies six types of #capital, we tabulate different forms of capital asymmetry an organization can strive to create to reduce the influence of competitors. Major strategic shifts in the #automotive industry from Ford to BYD are used to illustrate the disruptive impact of capital asymmetry. A tool?to help organizations record their current and desired level of capital asymmetry will be introduced. Thinking in terms of capital asymmetry is a new lens for #StrategicPlanning derived from the observation that organizations have competed for thousands of years by creating superior capital. The presentation introduces methods for analysing, designing, and implementing a capital asymmetry strategy.
