The Bakery Atlanta is a collective of artists, curators, and administrators dedicated to offering alternative models to local creatives and the general public. We host and produce experiences that connect and inspire people through collaboration, experimentation, and play. Working from a DIY ethos, The Bakery strives to holistically encourage creativity across mediums and disciplines. We do this through providing physical space, producing accessible public programming, and activating unconventional spaces. We are unified by the belief that art is pivotal to existence and that everyone should have opportunities to engage with art. Community building is at the core of what we do. We are currently activating a gallery space in South Downtown and are fundraising for our soon-to-be music and performing arts venue in Chosewood Park.

From teaching, visual, and performing arts, we worked with over 375 artists this year.

As part of my commitment to supporting indie and local creators, I'm proud to serve on the board of directors for two amazing nonprofit arts organizations, both of which have exciting events this weekend! First, this Friday, Oct 18, is The Bakery's "Dust to Dollars" Fundraiser. The Bakery Atlanta has breathed new life into vintage artwork from the historic Highland Inn, collaborating with 20+ local artists to revive these pieces. This unique exhibition celebrates The Bakery's 7th birthday and their new home at The Supermarket. It's a perfect blend of Atlanta's past and present art scenes, with all proceeds supporting The Bakery's year-end fundraising campaign. ?? : https://lnkd.in/eq5xuu-i Second, don't miss the special remount of "Hurricane Season," an original play by Vernal & Sere Theatre, fresh from its off-Broadway premiere in August. You can find our Assistant Director, Amanda P Norris, speaking on the panel, “ALT ATL: Artist-Run Spaces and Experimental Projects” on Sunday 10/6 at 2pm. She’s in great company! This conversation includes Jessica Helfrecht, éngel Ellis, Anna Akpele, and is moderated by Sarah Higgins ? Atlanta has a long, rich history of alternative, artists-run, DIY spaces and projects that foster new talent, build community, and provide essential resources for Atlanta’s emerging and mid-career artists. Although they are often precarious—vulnerable to funding scarcity, founder/volunteer burnout, and access to space—these projects are the lifeblood of Atlanta’s arts ecosystem. Blurring the lines between artist, curator, administrator, and visionary, these panelists represent some of the city’s most innovative and exciting spaces. The Bakery Atlanta transitioned to a 501(c)3 nonprofit in March 2023 in hopes of growing our organization, seeking grants, and corporate support to make our work sustainable. While building a robust event calendar, onboarding new staff and volunteers, growing our board of directors, AND moving into a new space, our small team has been busy writing grants and asking for support. ?? In our first year of incorporation, we’re happy to announce that we’ve received 6 grants so far! This financial support is what allows us to pay our people, keep our ticket prices as low as possible, and continuing offering opportunities to artists while producing public programming. ??
