In 2023, the Autism Alliance of Michigan conducted the Statewide Special Education Experience (SEE) Survey. This innovative online survey uniquely enhances our collective understanding of the state of special education in Michigan by elevating the lived experiences of parents, caregivers, and students. Our recently released Special Education Experience (SEE) Survey report is helping us shape a brighter future and more inclusive educational system for students with disabilities in Michigan by focusing on: ??Equity in resource allocation ??Supporting behavioral and medically necessary interventions in the school setting ??Decreasing use of exclusionary practices ??Addressing disparities in discipline ??Raising graduation rates ??Enhancing the process of identifying student needs These steps, alongside much-needed updates to state laws and transparency in disciplinary data, will help us create a stronger system and a more equitable future for all students.
