We’re honored to carry forward this legacy under the new name, Rand’s Ace Hardware, and to continue serving Plymouth with the same dedication and heart that Steve Rand and his team have poured into the store for decades!

We actually have a term for what Dustin described in his post below. It's called the Aubuchon Difference - people may forget what you say or do; but they will never forget how you make them feel.. Thank you for stopping by & sharing about your experience, Dustin!
I help companies w/ 15-300 people transition to the next level of growth | Expert in enterprise management & PE operating | I’ve facilitated 30+ company acquisitions totaling $3B in enterprise value
Last week, I went into an Aubuchon Hardware for the first time. I immediately felt something different, like things were running 100% as they should. But when I praised the manager, he surprised me and said: “Thank you. My team does a really fantastic job.” Man – he immediately gave credit to his team, not himself. It made an impression. So, of course, I went home and did a little Googling. It turns out, there’s a reason things feel different when you walk into an Aubuchon Company store. They have a whole set of values they adhere to at all their locations: - Collective responsibility - Continuous improvement - Politeness - Quality > speed Many companies have values written on posters, but values reinforced through clearly articulated behaviors and rituals are much more powerful. Yes, sure, it’s a hardware store. But it’s not like normal hardware stores, and you can feel it as soon as you step in the door. The same could be said of your company. When the team is in sync, when communication channels are established, when your employees are taking accountability on their own … it naturally bleeds over into your customer experience. Your customers will FEEL the difference. Employees working well together take care of customers differently. And it will keep them coming back. (This Aubuchon isn’t in my neighborhood, but if it were, I’d choose it over any other hardware store, every time.) Most companies are more like hardware stores than they are like Apple, Microsoft, Amazon or Google. They don’t have traditional strategic advantages (scale, first-to-market, etc.). This strategy - focusing on creating an amazing work environment that is relentlessly focused on improving - is a strategy that is available to almost all organizations. So, which one do you want to be: A normal hardware store? Or Aubuchon? → I guide everyday companies of 15 to 300 people as they transition to the next level of growth. Every week, I share my thoughts & tested strategies from our playbook. Follow to learn with me.
