It has come to our attention that a lawsuit has been filed against Stephan Nicoleau, Founder of the Astra Project, Chair of the Board of Directors for Project Drawdown, and General Partner at FullCycle by a former employee. The lawsuit alleges that Mr. Nicoleau has not fulfilled his obligations to compensate that employee for their salary and has also failed to reimburse various business-related expenses, including costs for Mr. Nicoleau’s business cards, Astra Project’s website design, Astra Project’s logo design, international travel expenses in support of Mr. Nicoleau, and healthcare costs. In response to the lawsuit, Mr. Nicoleau has asserted that it is his position that employees should bear the financial burden for these expenses as part of their support for his business ventures. This position, combined with the failure to properly compensate employees, is deeply concerning and has prompted serious reflection regarding ethical standards. Additionally, we have been informed of another forthcoming lawsuit from another former employee, raising similar concerns. We will continue to monitor these developments closely and will provide updates as more information becomes available. Several partners and associates of Astra Project have been named as witnesses in these cases. We strongly encourage all involved parties to cooperate fully with any legal requests, including subpoenas and depositions, to ensure a transparent and fair legal process.

We've worked tirelessly toward this moment. Our expanded emissions database is here, which includes every country and territory, every major sector of the global economy, and nearly every major individual source of GHG emissions. Climate TRACE’s database now tracks emissions from more than 352 million assets — a 4,400x increase compared to the last inventory. This encompasses human-caused emissions from facilities – like power plants, steel mills, ships, and oil refineries – and other emitting activities – like fertilizer application, deforestation, and wildfires. We cannot thank our coalition members and collaborators enough for the hours of hard work and dedication they have poured into this work. Thank you for giving the world an invaluable new resource for targeted and effective climate action. Reporter at Bloomberg Green

A leaky valve at a?Phillips 66?facility in Texas poured tons of planet-warming natural gas into the atmosphere over three days in August, a mishap that was disclosed to regulators only months later when the event was spotted in satellite data. The release of 9.5 million cubic feet of gas,?reported?to Texas regulators last month, is the latest example of outside researchers spotting pollution events that energy companies fail to disclose. Natural gas consists mostly of #methane, a powerful contributor to global warming that is a major?focus?of the COP28 UAE climate summit underway in Dubai. #Satellites that can detect emissions are set to play a significant role in holding polluters accountable for their climate impact. “You can run but you can’t hide,” US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry?said?at COP28 on Monday. “And we have to be prepared to name and shame.” Methane has more than 80 times the warming power of carbon dioxide during its first 20 years in the atmosphere. Policymakers see curbing release of the gas as among the cheapest, fastest ways to limit the rise in global temperatures. The leak became public in late November after Carbon Mapper, a California nonprofit, published data showing a cloud of methane spewing from a particular spot in rural Upton County, Texas. The finding was based on a scan of the region performed in August by an instrument attached to the International Space Station.?Bloomberg Green identified a Phillips 66 compressor station at the location and asked the company about the event on Nov. 22. The company?reported?the emissions to state regulators six days later. Assuming the gas released by Phillips 66 contained 80% methane, about 146 metric tons of methane was released, according to calculations by Bloomberg. The event had a similar short-term warming impact as the annual emissions from about 2,600 US cars. Phillips 66 said it's investigating the incident to "prevent recurrences and ensure timely reporting to regulatory agencies." Phillips 66 isn’t the only energy company in the US that’s failed to initially disclose its emissions to regulators. ExxonMobil said earlier this year it didn’t initially report a methane release in New Mexico to state regulators because someone forgot to file a form. Texas?said?in February it would investigate why pipeline operator Targa Resources failed to report an unexpected release of tons of gas within 24 hours as required. Building upon the success of the Methane Reduction Intensive (MRI) during New York Climate Week, this event is a continuation of the efforts to engage key players in methane emission reduction. The inaugural MRI, which attracted 75 participants including major corporations, innovators, and investment funds, represented a significant collective financial influence and sparked important discussions on implementation strategies. Yesterday we hosted the first COP28 Roundtable as a part of the Astra Project ‘s Global Methane Program, focusing on solutions, implementation roadmaps, financing options, and partnerships in methane mitigation. The next event, will be on Sunday, December 10th, and will cover: - enhancing precision in methane measurement - commercializing solutions for asset transformation - highlighting innovative approaches such as regenerative agriculture for methane reduction. We invite you to join us to make a tangible impact and showcase the private sector's significant contribution to reducing methane emissions. - Date: December 10th - Venue: Global Alliance for a Sustainable Planet pavilion, COP28 Blue Zone - Time: 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Registration is available at https://lnkd.in/gPS74N7T This event is a collaborative effort involving FULLCYCLE Project Drawdown Climate TRACE the Global Warming Mitigation Project, ACTUAL the @Global Alliance for a Sustainable Planet, GoodSAM, PBC #cop28 #sustainabilitytransformation #mri #methanereduction

    Investor at Azolla Ventures

I am overjoyed to share that I recently concluded a years worth of work exploring innovative solutions in methane by presenting findings on our new investment thesis on methane removal technologies to my colleagues at Azolla Ventures and Prime Coalition. The findings are timely as they align with important high level discussions and commitments to tackling methane happening at #COP28. Here are three major insights from our thesis on methane removal in short form 1. Both the science regarding methane removal and the technologies that are emerging are early, can be contentious, and are full of potential. If we want a shot at returning the world to balance, we have to consider methane removal in parallel with methane mitigation. Spark Climate Solutions, Astra Project, The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and many other organizations are doing amazing work to better articulate the multivariate systems level challenge of methane removal at scale. 2. Investment towards methane mitigation has increased substantially but is still insufficient. Announcements on new sources of capital, such as the $450MM in philanthropic capital announced at COP28 focused on methane, signals strong leadership by investors to tackle this problem. Global Methane Hub and others are doing exceptional work communicating the capital gaps in the space and considerations for investors. 3. (Buckle up — this one is tough) The fossil fuel sector has an opportunity to serve as a strong beachhead market for many of these solutions and may help them achieve cost down faster as a function of the unique alignment between the capabilities of methane removal technologies and the need expressed by both oil and gas and coal mines to improve operational efficiency. This was a complicated realization for me and is deeply personal as my journey to working in climate started with Chevron and I spent time in California working in both upstream and downstream aspects of the business. Sometimes revisiting the past is a good way to refresh your perspective about the present. To that end, I’m en route to the Global Methane Mitigation Summit taking place in Houston with the goal of connecting with as many forward looking professionals as possible, diving into the nuance, and learning. Two asks! If you know anyone from a conventional energy major who is committed tackling methane, please put us in contact. If you are interested in learning more about methane removal and getting a copy of our thesis, please let me know here. Thank you Ernest Chow, Erika Reinhardt, David Mann, K Young, Ermias Kebreab, Desiree Plata, Mollie Wilkinson, Jack Lewnard, Ilse Aben, and the countless others who dedicated time to supporting our work on this space.
