Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2025 Western Regional Conference in Sacramento, California! A special thanks to the Practicing Foresters Institute who provided scholarships allowing six Emerging Professionals and three students to attend! Ahead of the conference, ACF’s Executive Committee met for their annual Winter Meeting and a well-attended Practice of Consulting Forestry class was also held. The Western Regional Conference featured plenty of fellowship allowing members to make new and enhance existing connections in addition to important and timely content thanks to the work of the meeting’s excellent Program Development Committee. On Sunday, attendees visited the USDA Forest Service’s Wildland Fire Training and Conference Center (WFTC) residing at the McClellan Business Park, formerly McClellan Air Force Base. The WFTC was created to implement National Fire Plan direction for the accelerated development and training of wildland firefighters. One of the favorite parts of the tour was a visit to the aviation simulation room! Monday’s Technical Session informed attendees of hot topics in the region and beyond including leadership skills, ethical considerations, market and mill capacity forecasting, opportunities for collaboration in conservation, as well as federal policy issues and a transition update. Those who stuck around for Tuesday’s tour were treated to a day of sf “seed to product” with visits to the L.A. Moran Reforestation Center and the Sierra Pacific Industries mill in Lincoln, California.

This new Memorandum of Understanding with the USDA Forest Service establishes a cooperative framework aimed at enhancing the capacity of the USFS to actively manage National Forest System lands. Through this partnership, ACF members will have more opportunities to engage in sustainable forest management practices, participate in critical projects such as reforestation, habitat restoration, and wildfire resilience, and bring their expertise to advance forest health and productivity across the nation. The collaboration will not only create new business opportunities for ACF members but also reinforce the importance of science-based stewardship and strengthen relationships with public land managers.
