关于我们
The Arts Empowerment Project (TAEP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that connects children impacted by violence and abuse to existing art programs in Charlotte, North Carolina. Our mission is to break the cycles of violence and trauma through arts opportunities that ignite change in vulnerable youth. Our vision is to build a community that gives every child arts experiences that broaden horizons, foster resilience, and build essential life skills. We work with Mecklenburg County’s 26th Judicial District Court and over a dozen community partners to implement several art-based programs that are tailored to providing youth with opportunities to develop social and emotional life skills, experience positive self-expression, mend their spirits, and discover new possibilities. In addition to connecting children to existing programs, we also provide custom classes. We have served over 1,000 students across our four flagship programs - Arts Access, Culinary Boot Camp, Promoting Peace, and Free Arts Fridays. Every year, thousands of children in the Charlotte area are abused and neglected. Often trapped in challenging situations without immediate solutions or access to resources, these children suffer unimaginable trauma. As they age, many turn to harmful behaviors that perpetuate the cycle of violence they have experienced. Yet, there’s hope for these children to mend their spirits through the power of art. Studies show that the arts and positive pro-social activities contribute to greater academic achievement, improved social and emotional life skills, heightened self-esteem, increased civic engagement, and fewer behavioral issues. Abused children who engage with the arts routinely cite their arts involvement as a means of redirecting their lives and counteracting the negative effects of their circumstances. TAEP’s services are proudly supported by individual and corporate funding, and through partnerships with community arts organizations.

To kick off this Black History Month, we celebrate Kendrick Lamar's historic Grammy wins, which spotlight not just his lyrical genius but also the profound impact of hip-hop in defining our cultural landscape! ??? As the first artist to secure the Best Music Video award three times and record wins for Best Rap Peformance, his recent five Grammys during the 67th Grammy Awards make him the most awarded rap artist in Grammy history, and demonstrates how he is reshaping the narrative for artists everywhere. ???? As an organization committed to breaking cycles of violence and trauma through the arts, we recognize the power of storytelling. ??? The success of "Not Like Us" is a major achievement and we align with the messaging in the song, which calls out predators --whomever they may be. We applaud Kendrick Lamar for uplifting this critical issue and the voices of youth, and for ausing the arts as a vehicle for awareness and tranformational empowerment. #BlackHistoryMonth #KendrickLamar #NotLikeUs #TheArtsEmpowermentProject

?? Meet Isaac Aoki, a rising star at Charlotte Ballet! Originally from Salt Lake City, he’s been dancing since age three and has an impressive background, including scholarships at top ballet academies. Isaac, like many of our children participating through our programs, first experienced art at a young age, setting the stage for the passions they would pursue later in life. As he shares, “My Dad gave me a hand-me-down Nikon D70 when I was fifteen years old and I’ve been photographing ever since...” Support the star pair and support our mission in providing quality arts programing for the youth we serve in out community. ?? “If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving.” - Martin Luther King Jr. Progress, no matter how small, is vital.
