The Therapeutic Child Care Program is facing a $2.2 million shortfall for FY26, leaving children with significant disabilities and medical needs without critical nursing and developmental services. ?? What happened? Current law mandates $3.7 million in annual funding through FY25, and a bill was passed to extend that funding for FY27-FY29. But FY26 was left out, and the proposed budget only includes $1.5 million—far short of what’s needed to sustain care for these vulnerable children. ?? Why it matters: This program is a lifeline for families, ensuring children with complex medical needs receive specialized care while parents work and provide for their families.
