  • Congratulations to Assemblywoman Aura Kenny Dunn on being named the recipient of our Legislator of the Year award which will be awarded to her on May 28 at our Annual Awards Gala. Tickets & Sponsorships to the gala may be purchased here: https://lnkd.in/daePqEET This award recognizes a dedicated public servant who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to advancing policies that improve the lives of individuals with I/DD. This award honors a legislator who has shown leadership, advocacy, and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by the IDD community, working to create meaningful change through policy, funding, and support initiatives. Assemblywoman Aura K. Dunn has been a dedicated advocate for individuals with I/DD in New Jersey since joining the General Assembly in 2019. Throughout her time in office, she has worked to ensure that the voices of individuals with I/DD are heard and that their needs are prioritized in state policy decisions. In 2020, she co-founded and co-chairs the bipartisan New Jersey Legislative Disability Caucus, a pivotal group aimed at ensuring that legislation considers the challenges and opportunities faced by the disability community. As a leader in the caucus, Assemblywoman Dunn has played a crucial role in addressing a wide range of issues impacting individuals with I/DD. Among the many challenges she has worked to address are the shortage of special education teachers and the need to improve access to inclusive health and education services. Dunn's efforts have focused on promoting long-term solutions that better integrate individuals with I/DD into the broader community and ensure they have access to the services and support they need to thrive. In addition to her legislative work, Assemblywoman Dunn is an active participant in events such as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, where she raises awareness and advocates for policies that promote inclusivity, independence, and dignity for individuals with disabilities. Her commitment to these causes is deeply personal, and she continuously strives to be a voice for those who are often marginalized and overlooked in policy discussions. Assemblywoman Dunn's advocacy extends beyond her work in the legislature. She actively engages with families, community organizations, and service providers to ensure that her legislative efforts reflect the real needs and concerns of individuals with I/DD. Her thoughtful and compassionate approach has made her a trusted leader in both the legislative and disability communities. Through her leadership, Assemblywoman Dunn has made a significant impact on the lives of individuals with I/DD across New Jersey. She remains committed to creating a more inclusive, equitable, and supportive environment where everyone can succeed and live with dignity. • ArcMorris is grateful for the support of community partners, like the Mimi Washington Starrett Foundation. Thank you for supporting our mission, vision, and investing in impactful programs, like our medical group homes. #partners #community #medicalgrouphomes

ArcMorris is a nonprofit organization and the leading provider of services for individuals diagnosed with intellectual and related developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families in Morris County, NJ. The mission of ArcMorris is dedicated to the care, support, and advancement of people with intellectual and related developmental disabilities and their families. ArcMorris envisions a world where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are valued, included, and given the opportunity to achieve their highest potential for self-sufficiency and independence. To make this vision a reality, the agency is constantly evolving its services to meet the changing needs of the individuals and families they support. They provide essential services to people in our programs and their families to ensure continuity of care and support services. In 2023, ArcMorris opened its first Medical Group Home in Hanover Township, thanks to the generous support of many community partners. In January 2025, they opened their second medical group home in Morris Plains, NJ. However, the demand is high for quality residential programs that can support people with IDD who have significant medical needs. The agency plans to open two more homes in the next two years, working closely with municipal and county governments to align with the New Jersey Age-Friendly Blueprint, Morris County Master Plans, and local age-friendly initiatives. The goal is to create community-centered living options that promote independence, social connections, and overall well-being for individuals with IDD.
