We made a fact sheet with stats, quotes, & analysis from non-profits to show the toll this war has taken on journalism. We ask our journalism colleagues at the White House to call on the Biden administration to demand Israel stop killing journalists, hold them accountable for those they have killed, evacuate injured journalists immediately, and allow international media entry to the Gaza Strip. We ask our colleagues in international bureaus to press Israel to do the same. And we ask our colleagues everywhere to stand with us in speaking out about our colleagues who are being killed in Gaza, while we are banned from joining them to document what is happening on the ground. Today marks the one-year anniversary of the civil war in Sudan, a conflict that has led to the world’s largest internal displacement crisis and has subjected Sudan’s population to the catastrophic possibility of famine. More than 15,000 deaths have been recorded and the effects of this war extend well beyond the country’s borders. While the wars in Gaza and Ukraine have garnered enormous media coverage, the conflict in Sudan has taken a backseat. Some experts are calling it the “forgotten war.” AMEJA asks media organizations to increase coverage of one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world right now and end this deafening silence.
