We had a delightful day this week when Janel from ThunderWorks Company - Maker of ThunderShirts stopped by the shelter to bring us an incredible collection of ThunderShirts products! We tried them out on a few of our pups and witnessed an immediate change in their energy. Having #partners like this makes a big impact on our team. We are so grateful for their support!

Our hearts go out to all of those affected by Hurricane #Helene, especially our communities in #WesternNC. We encourage everyone to do what you can to support the disaster recovery efforts, and we recognize that this work will continue for weeks and months to come. APS has been in contact with the NC Department of Agriculture and several of our partner shelters in the state to discuss how we can help. To our Durham Community, it is with great sadness that we share, Booker, our 2024 Face of APS, passed away yesterday. Booker was adopted as a puppy from APS a little over 11 years ago and was “the best thing that ever happened” to his dads. One of his dads told us “the first year I heard of the gala and this potential prize [Face of APS], I was like one day my little bestest buddy is gonna get that” and in 2024 that came true!? His Dads couldn’t wait to share Booker’s story with the Durham community and show that “pitties are the sweetest things when given the opportunity to be their crazy funny silly selves.” Booker was just shy of 11.5yrs, but you wouldn’t know it. He was full of life, energy and love. He loved to cuddle with his cat sister Gabby, and play with his cat brothers Pasha and Sergei. His smile was contagious, and we are so grateful to his wonderful family for sharing him with us this past year. We will continue to share photos of Booker as our Face of APS for the remainder of the year, (with the blessings of his family) and we hope that when you see them, his smile can bring joy to your day, like it did for his family. #adoptedindurham #adopt #adoptdontshop #durhamnc #rescue #foster
