#UsdanPetTips ???? Sharing your Thanksgiving feast with your animal companions might feel festive, but it can be dangerous. Even small amounts of certain foods — like turkey skin — can cause serious health issues such as pancreatitis, while many holiday dishes contain ingredients that are toxic to pets. ? Use our quick guide to identify Thanksgiving foods to avoid, along with a few options you can share in moderation with your dog or cat. ? Keep in mind that even "safe" foods can be dangerous if you feed too much. If your pet likes to scavenge, be sure to clean up leftovers promptly and keep trash cans tightly covered. If you’re having guests over, remind them not to feed table scraps to your pets — no matter how persuasive those begging eyes might be! ???? Wishing you and your animal companions a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

#UsdanPetTips Travel Advisory: Never send your pet through the X-ray unit at airport security! ???? ? Follow Transportation Security Administration (TSA) guidelines: · Remove your pet from their travel carrier just before screening. · Place the empty carrier on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening. · Carry your pet or guide them through the walk-through metal detector using a leash. · Expect a TSA officer to swab your hands to check for traces of explosives. · After screening, safely return your pet to the travel carrier. If your pet is skittish or you’re concerned about an escape, ask a TSA officer about using a private screening room to make the process less stressful for both you and your pet. Safe travels!

#UsdanPetTips ?? A record-breaking number of wildfires in the New York City area, fueled by exceptionally dry weather, have led to smoky conditions impacting air quality across the region. This doesn’t just affect us—it can take a toll on our pets as well. Animals are sensitive to smoke and air pollution, and they rely on us to keep them safe. During smoky conditions: ?? Limit outdoor time to quick relief walks. Avoid intense activity. ?? Close windows and doors to keep smoke out. ?? Birds are especially vulnerable and should not be allowed outside. ?? Older animals, pets with heart or respiratory conditions, and flat-faced (brachycephalic) breeds like pugs and bulldogs may be more affected. ? Use a HEPA filter indoors to help reduce smoke and improve air quality for both you and your pet. ?? Contact your veterinarian if your pet shows signs like coughing, gagging, or wheezing. Stay informed about air quality in your area by checking AirNow.gov ?? The Jennings Creek wildfire extended across Passaic County, NJ, and Orange County, NY, impacting air quality in the surrounding areas. Credit: NJ Forest Fire Service
