Insurance companies want 90 days to 'think about' your emergency claim. That's 2,160 hours while your home looks like this. This photo shows the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in upstate South Carolina - a massive tree sliced through a family's bedroom, leaving their home exposed to the elements. This isn't just a photo though; it's what's at stake with Bill S. 244, which will pass in some form in South Carolina. As someone who works directly with families facing disasters, I'm watching with alarm as this proposed legislation would not only stretch insurance companies' response time to three months, but also expand their power to deny claims for ANY reason whatsoever. (How does that make our community safer?) While insurance companies take their time "reviewing" a claim: - Rain continues pouring through your roof - Mold spreads through your walls - Your family remains displaced - Your mortgage payments don't stop - Your savings account drains Under current law, insurance companies must respond promptly to catastrophic claims. (Makes sense, right?) S. 244 would demolish these protections you have, leaving South Carolina families exposed when they're most vulnerable - just like the home in this photo. I oppose S. 244 because our neighbors deserve better.

Throughout history, attorneys have stood as a crucial line of defense for our communities: - We fought for workplace safety standards that now protect millions - We advocated for consumer protections that hold companies accountable - We ensured timely insurance claim processing when families face crisis - We defended small businesses when they needed fair treatment Today, we continue this essential work as our state is under attack by big insurance companies. I'm inspired by my colleagues at the capitol fighting this big-insurance bailout bill, who understand and are demonstrating to all of us that legal advocacy at its core is about protecting our neighbors, our communities, and our shared future. (Shown here SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION FOR JUSTICE President Sydney Lynn arguing against S. 244).

Celebrations are in order! The Andrews Law Firm is honored to have sponsored Charleston Legal Access’s fundraiser along with The Shealey Law Firm, LLC (pictured here) and numerous other firms in our community. Collectively over $100,000.00 was raised to fund legal services for people who just barely do not qualify for a free attorney, but realistically cannot afford an attorney. Charleston Legal Access focuses on some of the most critical legal needs like orders of protection from abusive spouses, defense against elder abuse and exploitation, assistance with child custody matters and defense for people being evicted from their homes. Charleston Legal Access board member Annie E. Andrews, Esq. and Kelley Dupre Andrews-Edwards are proud to support their crucial work.
