Fighting childhood cancer through funding research and providing financial family assistance

关于我们

Non-profit organization on a mission to find a cure for childhood cancer, and in the meantime, help families in crisis and spread the B+ message. Our 3 objectives: 1. Provide financial assistance for families of children with cancer nationwide. The B+ Foundation is one of the largest providers of financial assistance to families of kids with cancer in the United States. 2. Sponsor research to find cures for childhood cancers and improve treatment options. The B+ Foundation has provided research grants to institutions such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (TN), Dana Farber Cancer Institute (MA), Seattle Children's Hospital (WA), Children's Oncology Group, and the Nemours Center for Childhood Cancer Research (DE). 3. Keep the “B+” (“Be Positive”) message alive through outreach efforts and talks. Share the lessons that Andrew taught us, including: have fun, set goals and try your best, show affection, and be comfortable with yourself. We need to “Live Like Andrew” by having faith in God, making time for our loved ones, keeping our lives in perspective, and appreciating our blessings. The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation honors the memory of Andrew McDonough, a 14 year old athlete and ‘A’ student at Salesianum HS from Wilmington, Delaware. Andrew went from playing four soccer games on January 27, 2007 to cardiac arrest and a diagnosis of leukemia and sepsis just 48 hours later. Andrew’s blood type and the family’s motto was, and continues to be, “B+” …“Be Positive”. Andrew’s valiant journey was chronicled by local and national media and his website received over 1,000,000 hits in the first six months. Andrew went to Heaven on July 14, 2007.

Over the weekend Tower Hill High School, The Tatnall School, Wilmington Friends School, and The Charter School of Wilmington came together for their first ever Jog-A-Thon, Miles for Smiles! Students and their families pledged to run/walk laps to fight #ChildhoodCancer and enjoyed a spike ball tournament, crafts, games, music, food, and stories from B+ Heroes Emily & Hayden + their families. This inaugural event raised $17,000 (and counting) and we couldn’t be prouder of these kids helping kids fight cancer ???

??STUDENT SPOTLIGHT This month we are featuring David Gichner, a sophomore at The University of Texas at Austin. He’s majoring in Radio-Television-Film and serves as the Philanthropy Chair for Texas ZBT. Keep reading to learn more about David’s involvement with B+ and dedication to the fight against childhood cancer ??? Q: What inspired you to get involved with B+? A: So many people in my life have been impacted by cancer so there is truly no organization I would rather partner with than one that feels close to home. I love the mission behind everything that B+ does and I could not be more grateful to be a part of it. ? Q: What is your best fundraising tip? A: One of the best fundraising tips I could offer is to know the facts. Many people ask for donations in a general manner as opposed to knowing exactly what they are fundraising for. I always like to tell people to explain what it is exactly that they are fundraising for and why exactly they want to fundraise. ? Q: What is the greatest lesson you've learned from your involvement with B+? A: The greatest lesson I have learned with my involvement with B+ is to be there for everyone. Everyone comes from different backgrounds and different experiences so it’s always best to look out for everyone and help those around you. ? Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to get more involved with B+? A: I would tell people to just do it. There’s no harm in helping others and knowing that you can make an impact in someone else’s life. It is one of the greatest things you can offer someone.

  • “We cannot tell you how much the support of The B+ Foundation has meant to us,” says B+ Hero Philo’s Mom. With her son’s recent cancer diagnosis, she shared that the entire family has been emotionally, physically and financially stressed. She expressed enormous gratitude for the small sense of relief and hope B+ was able to provide as Philo fights cancer. ??? Over the course of the year, when you give $75/month you could help B+ make a mortgage or rent payment on behalf of a family while they are out of work or experiencing reduced hours due to caring for their child during treatment. Join The B+ Monthly Impact Club today to give families hope while their child fights #childhoodcancer https://bit.ly/3PWC2FO
