Meet Simone Harms, our new General Manager. Simone joined our team on Monday, October 21st. She has been in the hospitality industry for many years, and we are very excited to welcome her to the team! ?What intrigued you about The Ameswell that made you want to work here? I feel that the Ameswell is a very special hotel. I believe that not only the location to be very unique with its ease of accessibility in the Bay Area, closeness to a vibrant downtown, and next to the major tech players in Silicon Valley but that its design and concept are one of a kind. I love the homage to the neighboring NASA Ames research center to be very special, singular, and relevant and the fact that it is an independent property allows incredible creativity and guest centricity. ?What qualities do you think are essential for success? I believe that great communication skills, strategic and forward-thinking, goal setting, positivity, teamwork, mentorship, and humility are critical skills. ?Who or what experience inspired you to have the career you have today? I owe my entire career to some incredible mentors I was lucky to have in my life. It’s all about people believing in you, training, coaching, and guiding you to bring out the best and also to forgive some mistakes and to make them learning experiences instead. One of the most memorable mantras that I adopted into everything I do is: Be a good human being first.

Meet Demy Laggui-Mendoza, our newly appointed Director of Talent & Culture. Demy has been with us since before the hotel opened in July 2021! She has worked many positions in her time here and is always ready for the next challenge. She is the star of the breakroom with her homemade sourdough bread. Follow along as she shares her experiences and inspirations that have led to her success. What is your favorite part about working here? I LOVE working with the people here.?Fortunately, I was part of the pre-opening team and I feel grateful to everyone who I have worked with and still do. It’s like going to work to meet up with friends. What qualities do you think are essential for success? To achieve success, I believe a positive attitude is crucial, as it helps overcome challenges with resilience and optimism. An excellent work ethic is equally essential, as consistent effort and dedication lead to progress and growth. Compassion plays a vital role, fostering strong relationships and creating a supportive environment. I think these traits enable individuals to navigate obstacles, stay motivated, and inspire others along the way. Who or what experience inspired you to have the career you have today? In my senior year at University, I had the privilege of getting an internship at a hotel in Singapore.?That was a very important experience and the start of my career in Hospitality. Then when I moved here to the US and got my first job at a Marriott property, I was very lucky to have a General Manager (@Sherrie Carreno) who is a wonderful person, a dear friend and a great mentor.?She really inspired me to be who I am today.?And I am paying it forward and hopefully inspiring others too.
