Please join me in congratulating Indiana University Bloomington student Alexander Ilchev, who represented both Indiana University and Bulgaria in the NATO Symphony Orchestra’s inaugural concert on July 11, in Washington, D.C. In a joint partnership between The American Pops Orchestra, the Atlantic Council, and the Library of Congress, the concert commemorated the 75th anniversary of NATO and featured student musicians, guest soloists, and musical selections representing all 32 NATO countries. This honor is a testament to Alexander's exceptional ability as a violinist, and I have no doubt his performance embodied Hoosier excellence and represented Indiana University Jacobs School of Music at the highest level.

Thank you to our partners, Atlantic Council and Library of Congress, for making this dream concert a reality! It was an honor to celebrate NATO's 75th anniversary with featured (and student) musicians and repertoire from all 23 NATO countries!
Congratulations to our colleagues at the Atlantic Council for brilliantly orchestrating?? an unforgettable display of cultural diplomacy to end this month’s NATO 75th Anniversary Summit in Washington. The debut of the NATO Symphony Orchestra, comprised of musicians, soloists, and repertoire from all 32 NATO member states under the baton of The American Pops Orchestra Founder/Music Director Luke Frazier, showcased various talented soloists from American vocalist Nic Rouleau and North Macedonian clarinetist Ismail Lumanovski, to Latvian cellist Max Beitan and Danish vocalist Sinne Eeg. The evening served as a powerful reminder of the impact of cultural diplomacy — as a violinist, a soft power tool I learned to appreciate growing up in a Ukrainian-American family which, on my Mom’s side, was steeped in the country’s rich cultural life as conductors, composers, and artists, in Lviv. Just as sport can eliminate barriers and build global connections, so the evening reminded us that music is indeed an international language — uniting us, harmonizing and celebrating our valuable differences in order to achieve greater impact, and inspiring emotions underscoring our shared humanity. Special recognition to Amb. Capricia Penavic Marshall (also a valued Women's Foreign Policy Group Board member) and Jenna Ben-Yehuda. Bravi!
