Cyber threats pose an increasing risk to vessel operations, port security, and global trade as the maritime sector continues to embrace digitalization. Cyber incidents, including ransomware attacks, GPS spoofing, and data breaches, have the potential to disrupt supply chains and compromise safety at sea putting vessels and crews at risk. In the face of these increased risks, The American P&I Club offers Members a "Cyber Readiness Review" and maintains a "Cyber Awareness" webpage. The webpage includes industry updates, best practices, guidance, and publications like "A Primer on IMO Cyber Risk Management Guidelines," its "Cyber Awareness" Comic as well as Circulars and Member Alerts tracking important issues. The Club also partnered with ABS Group to produce "Managing Cyber Risks and the Role of the P&I Club: An Overview." Drug traffickers use a variety of creative means to smuggle drugs aboard vessels, concealing drugs everywhere from the anchor to the engine room to containers to the propeller to even attaching so-called "torpedoes" to the hull. American Club correspondent BRAZIL P&I recently released the report "Drug Smuggling in Brazilian Ports 2024" that provides a summary of drug seizures at key Brazilian ports during that period. The report also gives an overview of locations where drugs have been found onboard vessels and recommends antidrug smuggling preventative measures.
