Did you know that the only female founding member of the American Academy of Diplomacy is Carol Laise? Carol Laise was born in Winchester, VA on November 14, 1917. She studied at the American University, the George Washington University,? and later at the Foreign Service Institute. Before entering the Department of State, Carol Laise worked in the U.S. Agriculture Department and on the Civil Service Commission for a decade. In 1948, she joined the Foreign Service. During her career, she served as Ambassador to Nepal from 1966 to 1973, at the United Nations, and as Assistant Secretary of State. Ambassador Carol Laise married Ambassador Ellsworth Bunker in 1967, making their marriage the first between two ambassadors in the U.S. ?#womenshistorymonth
