Throwback to the 1950s at Amalgamated Sugar! Back then, our warehouses were packed floor to ceiling with towering stacks of sugar bags, moved primarily by hard-working hands. It was a time of intense labor and dedication in sugar distribution. Fast forward to today, and innovation has reshaped our operations. Advanced automation now drives our packaging process, boosting efficiency and production like never before. While we’ve come a long way in automation, we remain committed to continuous improvement—always evolving while honoring the legacy of those who built the foundation of our success. #AmalgamatedSugar #Sugarbeets #innovation

This past winter, Amalgamated Sugar Company's Sugarbeet Research (SBR) team conducted an exploratory study to see how thermal imaging drones could help better manage sugarbeet piles. The goal was to test this technology and develop a process that our Ag Department could use in the future. Why does this matter? Heat is a key indicator of respiration, the natural process where sugarbeets break down and lose sugar content. The warmer the pile, the more sugar is lost. By using thermal imaging, we can spot problem areas early and take action to keep our beets as cool and in the best condition possible. Thermal imaging also helps us identify spoilage and other risks, allowing for smarter decisions during excavation and reloading. This study was just the first step in seeing how new technology can help us store and manage sugarbeets more efficiently. We’re excited to learn from this trial and explore how this tool could support our growers and operations in the future! ?? We had a great time at Thomas Jefferson Charter School in Caldwell for Ag Day! Amalgamated Sugar was proud to teach kids from kindergarten to 6th grade about how sugarbeets are grown and how real sugar is made right here in Idaho. The kids got to hold a real sugarbeet and smell freshly made pellets and shreds from our Nampa Factory — made just this morning. They also got to take home some fun swag to remember the day. Thank you to Thomas Jefferson Charter School for letting us share the story of Idaho agriculture and show the kids where real sugar comes from! #AgDay #IdahoAgriculture #Sugarbeets #FarmToTable #AmalgamatedSugar
