The Aluminum Association welcomes President-elect Trump’s efforts to support American manufacturing by tackling unfair global trade. We also believe that continued tariff exemptions for imports of Canadian aluminum – originally negotiated by President Trump under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement – are vitally important. Open, tariff-free aluminum trade with Canada has underpinned much of the more than $10 billion in domestic investment the industry has made over the past decade. The U.S. industry must source about 2/3 of the primary aluminum it uses every year from Canada, since all domestic smelters, even running at full capacity, cannot produce nearly enough metal to meet demand. We will continue to work with the administration to tailor trade interventions to help our industry, and U.S. manufacturing in general, succeed. Read more from S&P Global https://lnkd.in/eDESFi7w

We’re honored to be part of a coalition urging Congress to pass two critical bipartisan recycling bills before the end of the year. The Recycling Infrastructure Accessibility Act (RIAA) proposes a pilot program to boost recycling access in underserved and rural areas, while the Recycling Composting Accountability Act (RCAA) seeks to establish guidelines for tracking recycling and composting, facilitating improvements through data-driven strategies. Together, with other leaders in this space, we’re advocating for solutions that are good for the economy, the environment and our domestic supply chains. Happy America Recycles Day! ?? We are proud that aluminum is one of the most recycled (and recyclable) materials on Earth. From cans to cars to construction, aluminum can be recycled over and over again in an infinite loop. This is why 75% of all the aluminum ever produced is still in use today. But we can do more! In the beverage can market, the average American throws away twelve 12-packs (that's more than $1 billion worth of aluminum) into landfills every year. We need to bring more of this metal back for the sake of the economy, the environment and supply chain security. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eycRSNeH #AmericaRecyclesDay #Recycling #ChooseAluminum

Excellent discussions this week in Washington on North American trade with Amb Kirsten Hillman, Jean Simard & Charles Johnson during the association’s annual member meeting. New targeted trade enforcement efforts in Canada will help keep unfairly traded aluminum out of the region.

Recycling aluminum is good for the environment—and the economy. But Americans sends nearly a dozen 12-packs per person worth of aluminum beverage cans to landfills every year instead of the recycling bin on average.?More must be done to get this critical material back into the production stream. Thanks to Business Insider for diving into the challenges of aluminum recycling and possible ways to drive improved recycling rates. ??
Aluminum is infinitely recyclable, but Americans throw out millions of tons of it every year — mainly aluminum cans and other post-consumer scrap.

Our latest?Aluminum Situation?statistical report?shows demand for the aluminum industry in North America (U.S. and Canada) increased 5.2% year-over-year through the first half of 2024. This follows a year of softer demand in 2023 that was largely driven by industry destocking and a drop in imports of around 25% that year. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eBXxSe2v
