Recently visited one of the newest members of The Alliance, The Cooperstown Food Pantry, and what an incredible operation they have. Cooperstown does amazing work for rural New Yorkers in working with the cancer treatment center at Bassett Medical Center, stocking the backpack program, and serving a growing number of families in their pantry. Proud to have this great organization as part of The Alliance!

A Network of Frontline Anti-Hunger Advocates
关于我们
The Alliance for a Hunger Free New York is a collective of frontline anti-hunger advocates who provide direct food access across New York State. We were formed out of a partnership between The Food Pantries for the Capital District’s NYS Community Food Assistance Network and the Hunger Action Network of New York State. The Alliance is a collaborative effort of community-based food assistance providers and stakeholders to reduce food insecurity in New York State. We are a voice for community-based food assistance providers and our community members experiencing food insecurity.

Last month, Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming, a member of The Alliance, hosted us to see their beautiful farm and chat about systems change in food. It is amazing to see how so much of the food supply chain is represented in one spot.? ? The Alliance got to know Glynwood through their Food Sovereignty Fund which has been contracting small-scale farmers from historically marginalized backgrounds to supply fresh, nutrient-dense, culturally significant food to frontline food access programs since 2020. Glynwood also operates a host of other programs that are transformative the food system such as CSA is a SNAP, their work on supporting locally grown grains and staples, and so much more.? ? Thank you for having us!

This week, members of The Alliance for a Hunger Free New York had our second annual member meeting where we discussed challenges, reviewed the last year’s accomplishments, introduced the membership committee and advocacy committees, and welcomed two new members to our coalition (Cooperstown Food Pantry and Family Services Association of Glens Falls).? ? Thank you to Dutchess Outreach and your amazing team for being such gracious and welcoming hosts for the entire coalition. It is always so energizing to be in the same room with members from our 28 counties and learning from one another! Thanks to all who attended in person and virtually!

Went on a visit to our Food Summit host, Russell Sage College’s Food Hub. There’s a lot of great work happening at RSC to ensure that students have what they need to invest in their future. Between the food hub itself ??, hydroponic growing ??, and tabling with donated meals ?? to ensure students can make it through the weekend. More info on the RSC Food Hub is here: https://lnkd.in/eZtx-JDP

We are so proud of Peyton Y.! Congratulations on your graduation of the Community Advocates Program!
Executive Director at The Alliance for a Hunger Free NY and The Food Pantries for the Capital District, Founder of the NYS Food as Medicine Coalition
I attended an incredibly inspiring and meaningful event this week. The graduation of the first Community Advocates Program participants, run by the Rotterdam Community Center, in partnership with Sycamore Collaborative with support from The Schenectady Foundation This program brought together an incredible group of humans and I was honored to share in their celebration. Through this innovative program, neighbors with lived experience of poverty and nutrition insecurity grew in their ability to share their stories and organize in their communities to change the unjust systems we all live in. The Alliance for a Hunger Free New York’s Peyton Y. was a part of this program and is looking forward to sharing this model with other people and organizations across the State. When Peyton was sharing a few words about their experience, the person sitting next to me said, “They give me hope for the future.” I feel the same way. Well done Rotterdam Community Center and Sycamore Collaborative! Rev. Dustin G. Longmire and Joe Paparone - you did this! Thank you for your commitment to our community.
