Last week Newsweek featured WSCAH in an article about the impact of tariffs on emergency food providers. The piece addresses the growing pressures on emergency feeding organizations, like WSCAH, working to feed hungry members of our communities. WSCAH CEO, Greg Silverman is quoted in the article stating, “Right now, people are afraid. So whether that fear is founded or unfounded, the fear is real. And therefore, we want to make sure that we allay some of those fears as best that we can." The article also highlights the work of the Roundtable: Allies for Food Access, a collective of nine of the largest emergency food providers in NYC, in preparing for the impact of the policy changes. It is essential for all of us to continue to shed light on the challenges our communities face and the collective efforts needed to ensure continued access to food for those who need it most. ? We were formed out of a partnership between The Food Pantries for the Capital District’s NYS Community Food Assistance Network and the Hunger Action Network of New York State. We are a voice for community-based food assistance providers and our community members experiencing food insecurity.

Thank you Governor Kathy Hochul! We're thrilled for your support of Hunger Prevention Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP) and Nourish NY, and the huge impact these programs have on food pantries, frontline community food providers, and those facing food insecurity across New York.
Executive Director at The Alliance for a Hunger Free NY and The Food Pantries for the Capital District, Founder of the NYS Food as Medicine Coalition
“We commend Governor Hochul for maintaining needed resources in the State budget to support the food pantry and frontline community food providers. Hunger Prevention Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP) and Nourish New York are state programs dedicated to making sure food pantry shelves are stocked with nutritious food, food grown by New York farmers, and critical operational support. With food inflation 25% since 2019, and drastic increases in community members seeking assistance at food pantries, charity alone cannot keep food on the table. Food pantries are a last resort for many, when other resources fall short. On behalf of our alliance of food providers in 33 counties, and growing, and the millions of New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity, thank you Governor Hochul, for maintaining critical State resources.”

A few weeks ago, we got the opportunity to visit one of our newest members, Cooking for Long Island Veterans. It was a pleasure to meet all of the amazing people that are working tirelessly to get food to homebound veterans in Long Island by leveraging food rescue, relationships, and a dedicated group of generous volunteers.

Recently visited a member of The Alliance, Tompkins Cortland Community College, and got to see the amazing work happening there. TC3 has really taken the call of addressing college food insecurity in stride. With the Panther Pantry & Community Closet, TC3 is addressing basic needs for the students and community while also working to develop safe spaces for recovery and student success.? ? Grateful to have such amazing partners working towards a hunger free New York!
