The Alexander Hamilton Society (AHS) is an independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting constructive debate on basic principles and contemporary issues in foreign, economic, and national security policy. AHS is a membership organization—not a think tank or an advocacy group. Seeking to build a national network of outstanding students, faculty, and professionals, we sponsor debates at colleges and universities, as well as in major cities, and provide other opportunities for our members to flourish intellectually and professionally.

Last night, Washington, D.C. professional chapter members attended a private dinner with Bob Simmons, Vice President at Boeing Defense, Space & Security Government Operations. Over dinner, Simmons and attendees discussed the future of the defense department and the relationship between congressional appropriators and the defense industrial base. Last week, our Director of Academic Programs, Dr. Murray Bessette, had the honor of speaking at the (Non) Reconciliation with the Communist Past: European Context Conference in Prague. Dr. Bessette's remarks focused on the need for an American educational curriculum that provides a firmer grasp on the complexities and contexts of European history to better inform American politics and policy.

On Tuesday, The Alexander Hamilton Society at Belmont University hosted Catherine Sendak from the Center for European Policy Analysis for a discussion titled “Navigating Complexity and Strengthening Ties: The Role of the United States in Ensuring European Security Amidst Global Uncertainty.” It was an honor to host Ms. Sendak for our second AHS speaker event and to formulate questions that covered the most important issues related to this topic and reflected her expertise. One of AHS-Belmont’s primary goals is to foster conversations about prevalent global issues on campus from a unique viewpoint, and most importantly, spark discussions between differing perspectives. Now more than ever it is crucial to have these policy-based discussions about our geopolitical landscape, and exactly our nation’s leadership can lead to a safer world. A huge thank you to Catherine Sendak for traveling to Nashville for the day and spending time with our executive board, The Alexander Hamilton Society and Connor Cowman for providing the resources and connections that made it possible to host this event, the AHS-Belmont executive board for all your planning efforts, Marieta Velikova for supporting us in making this event logistically possible, and Olivia Roemer for capturing this event.?
We are excited to highlight some chapter speaker events hosted by our University of Michigan AHS Chapter this month. On November 1st, they welcomed Mark Dubowitz from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) to analyze the Israel-Palestine conflict. Then, on November 6th, they hosted Dan Blumenthal from the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) to discuss the evolving dynamics between China and Taiwan. Earlier this week, The Alexander Hamilton Society at Wheaton College hosted Mr. Luke Coffey of the Hudson Institute for a lecture titled "Ukraine: Defending Freedom and Fueling Conflict." In his lecture, Coffey advocated for continued support of Ukraine and removing certain restrictions imposed by the U.S. on using the weapons and resources we provide. It was a joy to moderate as we discussed the war's endgame and the implications of President-elect Donald Trump's second-term and early appointees. Huge thanks to Mr. Coffey, Dr. Bryan McGraw, and the students who joined us for dinner (Molly Holbert, Cade Acker, Lily Gauger)!
