31st December , 2024 was the deadline for withdrawal of the following Active Ingredients from the Kenyan agricultural space: ?? ? Chlorothalonil ( ALL CROPS), Pymetrozine (ALL CROPS), Thiacloprid (ALL CROPS) ?? ?? ?? ?? Diuron (ALL CROPS) ?? ?? ?? Propineb (EDIBLE CROPS) ?? ?? ?? Chlorpyrifos and Chlorpyrifos Methyl (ALL AGRICULTURAL USES), ? 2,4-Dichlorophenyl Actic Acid and 2,4-Dimethyl Amine salt (COFFEE) In the coffee sector, Chlorothalonil was the most widely used molecule with the highest number of registered products other than coppers for management of Coffee Berry Disease and Coffee Leaf Rust. From my interactions with farmers, I found out that most farmers know their fungicides by the trade names and no the active ingredients. That means we have the responsibility of ensuring that this information is unpackaged and simplified for the farmers, to adopt. I developed a farmer reference material indicating the various chlorothalonil products (Trade Names) that farmers can relate with. I share it out for all the coffee stakeholders. Soil is a farmer’s greatest asset, and how we treat it today affects tomorrow’s harvests. Conservation agriculture focuses on minimizing soil disturbance, improving water retention, and preventing erosion—practices that help maintain soil health and long-term productivity. By using tools like harrows for minimal tillage, farmers can protect their land while ensuring sustainable crop production. But conservation agriculture isn’t one-size-fits-all—farmers adapt techniques to suit their needs and environments. ???????? ???????????????????????? ?????????????????????? ?????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ?????? ??????? ?????????? ???????? ?????????????????????? ???? ?????? ????????????????! #TheAgricultureReport #SustainableFarming #ConservationAgriculture #SoilHealth

Imagine investing in what seems like a promising agricultural opportunity—only to be left with empty pockets and unsold produce. This is the harsh reality for farmers in Nyeri, who were lured into growing Rumex and Punas plants with the promise of prosperity, only to be abandoned by the very organization that sold them expensive seeds. Sadly, this is not an isolated case. Across the agriculture sector, farmers have fallen prey to misleading ventures in the past, leaving them in financial distress. How can we shield our farmers from such exploitative practices? What policies or safeguards need to be in place? #TheAgricultureReport #Agriculture #FarmerSupport #RumexScam #NyeriFarmers #FoodForThought #SustainableAgriculture #KenyaNews
