Today, we remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. We honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost and we pay tribute to the bravery of first responders who risked their lives to save others. Their heroism exemplifies the highest ideals of service. Let us remember the resilience of our communities and continue to work to protect our great democracy.

Today, Wade Balkonis is taking over our channels to talk about what advocacy looks like outside of DC and the benefits of advocacy in the states. My organization Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) hosts advocacy events throughout the year including (but not limited to): - Facility Visits with or without elected officials - AEM Manufacturing Express Bus Tour - Hill Days in WI, IA, SC In many ways working from outside the beltway can be more effective since congressional offices are so overwhelmed, outreach to district staff from elsewhere has been very successful bringing legislators at the state and federal level to our member companies. Events outside DC often gives us more time with officials to understand our priorities and opportunities. For example, visits often last 1.5hr vs 10min for a standing meeting. Cultivating new grassroots supporters through visits with member companies and interactive presentations with shop floor workers has drastically increased our highest levels of active and engaged supports?- laying the groundwork for future visits by elected officials, activating on policy priorities, and collecting powerful testimonials to be used to advance our industry.
