Meet Carolann Schmitt! Carolann is a Gettysburg resident who retired from her "21st century job", but still teaches across the country on mid-19th century clothing and social and material culture. She works with us in our archival department, and her favorite part of ACHS is the archives and the barn, where we store many of the clothing and material items Carolann knows so much about! In her free time, she donates her time to other historic sites and non-profit groups as a speaker. Carolann's favorite part of the battlefield is anywhere during sunrise or sunset.?

Say hello to Christine Ecker! She is a retired elementary art educator from the Gettysburg Area School District. She is also the former mayor of the Biglerville Borough. Christine is originally from Laureldale PA. Her favorite parts of our museum are the Gettys Tavern section on Revolutionary America and the gift shop! When she's not generously donating her time with us, you can catch Christine at the David Wills House (currently closed to visitors) and the Majestic Theater. She's also a member of Biglerville Garden Club (VP), Gettysburg Chapter DAR, Biglerville Historical & Preservation Society (Executive Board), and Coordinator of the Biglerville Hometown Heroes Banner Program.

Don Schmitt worked in business information systems for 30 years before he retired in 2013. He hails from none other than Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and is a 5th-generation Gettysburgian. Don had trouble choosing just one favorite exhibit in our museum, but he loves all of the exhibits that deal with the civilian experience of living in Gettysburg and the surrounding county. When he's not with us, Don is volunteering his time at the Gettysburg National Military Park? supporting the interpretive NPS Ranger division at the visitor center, David Wills House and other park venues and the Adams County Department of Emergency Services/911, where he is the lead volunteer responsible for managing the auxiliary communications station at the Emergency Operations Center. Don's favorite part of the battlefield is a tough call! If he had to pick just one, it would be the view from the Union center of Cemetery Ridge looking across the field toward Seminary Ridge and imagining what took place on July 3, 1863.

Meet Eileen! Eileen Hoover is a volunteer docent at Gettysburg Beyond the Battle Museum. Originally hailing from Lancaster County, Eileen is a former teacher who also owned a bed and breakfast in the Gettysburg area! Her favorite part of the museum is the letters from the Civil War soldiers in Gallery 6: The Civil War. When she's not spending her time volunteering with us, you can find Eileen volunteering with the Christ Lutheran Church Songs & Stories program and the Adams County Library System. Eileen's favorite part of the battlefield is Little Round Top at sunset.

Meet Roger! Roger Heller is a volunteer in the research room at the Adams County Historical Society. Also a retired high school history teacher, he established many history-based programs at his school, including American Studies and the AP American History program. Roger hails from Pennsylvania and is an Adams County native. As someone who grew up here, he loves the entire museum and can't pick just one favorite thing! Roger's favorite place on the battlefield (though it is a tough decision because he's been visiting the battlefield since he was a child) is the view looking South from the Peace Light.
