In January, Andrew Mayock completed his term as President Biden's Chief Sustainability Officer. Under Mayock’s leadership, the federal government achieved a 40% emissions reduction and demonstrated real progress on electrifying buildings, transitioning to clean vehicles, and powering operations with clean energy. Jim Kapsis sat down to interview him about his legacy and what’s next. Some highlights: ? Scaled federal EV adoption from 2,000 to 90,000 vehicles with 60,000 charging stations in development — matching the pace of major corporate initiatives like Amazon-Rivian. ??? Pioneered the $1.2B Buy Clean program, giving innovative startups developing zero-carbon concrete and efficient building materials their first major customers. ?? Proved that government can make big climate promises and actually deliver on them — creating a model for effective climate action at scale.
