We're happy to announce that our 50th Conference will take place virtually on the Zoom events platform April 16-18, 2025.? ? ACTLA 50 invites you to reflect and consider: *Our Roots: ACTLA has nurtured strong roots across our member institutions and colleges and universities more broadly, cultivating an environment of collaboration within and outside higher education spaces that prioritize student-centered pedagogy and equitable learning outcomes. Have our identities as learning support specialists, tutors, Supplemental Instruction leaders, and peer coaches become more visible, pedagogically and structurally? How has the role of a tutor changed in the last 50 years of ACTLA and how will it continue to change? *Our Future: With time comes the evolution of positive and progressive educational opportunities built on the shoulders of change agents who came before us.?As we look forward, it is our responsibility to forge intentional and representative practices that combat the current and future challenges that the state of our education system faces. We find ourselves in an uncharted educational landscape, navigating technological advances with new modes of learning and inevitable changes to the state of education. Together we must consider how to adapt and evolve tutoring and learning support for the next 50 years.? With this in mind, ACTLA invites you to submit proposals for our 50th Annual Conference: https://lnkd.in/gDirbq-3 Proposals will be accepted through Sunday, December 15, 2024 at 11:59pm. ? Conference strands -- Intentionality: How do we create and sustain spaces of empowerment for our students to succeed that focuses on intentionality, inclusivity, and accessibility??? -- Community: Community is what built ACTLA over the last 50 years and working in community is what will shape ACTLA in the next 50 years. How do we build community within our centers and restore humanizing relationships with campus partners? -- Ensuring Access Using New Practices/Technologies: What strategies are being developed and executed to support students equitably in the changing landscape of technology within higher education??What can ACTLA do to support others in achieving universal design?? -- Recognition of the 50th/those that have come before: In giving flowers to those who came before us, what stories can you tell that highlight the most important lessons you've learned in your work, and what will you share with the next generation of tutoring & learning assistance? (Feel free to name-drop and recognize who impacted you as an educator and person!) -- Interdisciplinary work: A common theme across this work is that peer educators serve multiple roles and wear multiple hats within their peer educator title.?How is tutoring/SI/etc?more than just learning assistance??How does this translate across university structures????

Advancing within the discipline and practice of tutoring and learning assistance in higher education
关于我们
MISSION The mission of the Association of College for Tutoring and Learning Assistance (ACTLA) is to advance excellence within our discipline and practice. Through professional development, certification, and dialogue, we foster and promote racial and socioeconomic equity in student achievement. We recognize the critical role of tutoring and learning assistance programs in disrupting and transforming inequitable practices and educational systems. The historic and systemic nature of educational equity has created economic and psycho-social barriers for our students. We are committed to ensuring equitable access and inclusive practices regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic class, age, ability, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, and individual expression and experience. Our work facilitates student empowerment, restorative justices, and the transfer of cultural knowledge within our global communities. HISTORY ACTLA was founded in 1973 with the purpose of improving tutorial programs and services in California community colleges. The first conference was held at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria on may 2, 1974. Through 1983 the organization was called the California Community College Tutorial Association (CCCTA). Beginning in 1984, with the intention of including all institutions of higher education in California, the name changed to the Association of California Colleges for Tutoring and Learning Assistance (ACCTLA). In the summer of 2002 a strategic planning committee of the executive board approved a final name change to the Association of Colleges for Tutoring and Learning Assistance (ACTLA). More than 30 years after its inception, ACTLA is now a national organization but retains its original purpose: improving tutorial programs and related services. ACTLA is a proud member of the Council of Learning Assistance and Developmental Education Associations.

One of the highlights from today's conference was having John Ulloa deliver this year's keynote address. Our membership resonated with John's words on staying true to our authentic selves, critical self-reflection as the means to truly evolve as educators, and perhaps most importantly, taking risks to find new strengths and opportunities for ourselves. Thank you for everything today, John! We highly recommend checking out John's work:
Today, I had the privilege of delivering the keynote for ACTLA, and I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity. It was a humbling experience to speak to so many dedicated educators who are committed to making a difference in the lives of their students. Thank you to everyone who attended and made the event a success. #ACTLA #KeynoteSpeaker #Grateful
