#Healthinsurance companies see a new administration as an opportunity to start fresh with #MedicareAdvantage rulemaking. Some are saying the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services should issue a brand new proposed rule. In particular, they object to requiring #Medicare/#Medicaid to cover GLP-1s, the expiration of the Value-Based Insurance Design model, and a proposal requiring timely updates to provider directories.

Improper payments made by HHS have declined steadily since the pandemic. In 2021, 12.8% of all department-made payments were improper; in 2024, that number shrank to 5.6%. Spending on #Medicaid and #MedicareAdvantage in particular tightened up, while some problem areas persist in Original #Medicare. DME, lab services, and home health care are most commonly mispaid.

#Employeebenefits pros: Keep an eye on #caregiving leave as you help #employers craft benefit packages. 100 million US adults identify as caregivers supporting a spouse, elderly parent, or special needs child. Over 20% of this "sandwich generation" left jobs because of caregiving burdens. Many of those folks aren't eligible for #FMLA, or can't afford to take unpaid time, impacting retention and productivity.

In October, Change Healthcare revealed that last year's hack compromised the health information, Social Security numbers, and more of about 100 million Americans. Turns out, its closer to 190 million. Change Healthcare is notifying affected people. In the meantime, look for the hallmarks of identity theft: unusual credit report changes, suspicious accounts open in your name, or fraudulent transactions, among others.
